Systems Administrator - Remote Position

The University of Pikeville is actively seeking a dynamic and committed professional to serve, remotely, in the role of Systems Administrator. This position will serve to monitor and maintain the systems and applications of the University of Pikeville by performing the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  1. Enforce Information Technology policies and procedures. Assist with the creation and enforcement of policy related to technology at the university.
  2. Manage and maintain the university VMWare environment
  3. Implement, manage, and maintain the university physical and virtual server fleet
  4. Maintain AD users and groups.
  5. Maintain datacenter battery backups.
  6. Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  7. Manage and maintain Azure Active Directory and the Office 365 suite.
  8. Manage and maintain university owned software suites
  9. Generate patch management reports, and ensure security patches are applied to university applications and hardware.
  10. Manage the university antivirus suite.  Generate reports, maintain endpoint definition updates, and document any cybersecurity incidents.
  11. Assist in maintaining licensing inventory.
  12. Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, faculty, staff, and students in order to plan, organize, and implement daily workflow and projects, as well as to train, inform, and assist with any inquiries. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for the education.
  • At least 5 years of experience with network or systems administration.
  • Must have experience with computer maintenance in order to maintain lab computers for students.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. MS and MAC systems, servers, printers, routers.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web.
  • Certifications such as A+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, VMWare VCP, etc are preferred.
  • This position is a remote position, requiring occasional travel.
