IT Systems Administrator

The University of Pikeville is seeking an IT Systems Administrator.  The primary role of this position is to proactively monitor and maintain the computer systems of the University of Pikeville.

Responsibilities:

  1. Comply with the IT Services Service Level Agreement (SLA).
  2. Proactively diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve systems problems, and replace defective components when necessary.
  3. Manage and maintain the university VMWare environment
  4. Implement, manage, and maintain the university physical and virtual server fleet
  5. Maintain AD users and groups.
  6. Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  7. Manage and maintain Azure Active Directory and the Office 365 suite.
  8. Manage and maintain university owned software suites
  9. Generate patch management reports, and ensure security patches are applied to university applications and hardware.
  10. Manage the university antivirus suite. Generate reports, maintain endpoint definition updates
  11. Work in conjunction with the cybersecurity/MDR and Information Security Officer to remediate cybersecurity findings
  12. Work with the IT Senior Systems Administrator on project management as projects are assigned.
  13. Receive Helpdesk ticket escalations which pertain to IT infrastructure, resolve the IT issue, and close the ticket in a timely manner within the KACE system. Assist in maintaining licensing inventory.
  14. Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
  15. Assist in monitoring and maintaining backups in accordance to DR, Business Continuity, and IT policy.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, faculty, staff, and students in order to plan, organize, and implement daily workflow and projects, as well as to train, inform, and assist with any inquiries. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for the education.
  • At least 5 years of experience with network or systems administration.
  • Must have experience with computer maintenance in order to maintain lab computers for students.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. MS and MAC systems, servers, printers, routers.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web.
  • Certifications such as A+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, VMWare VCP, etc. are preferred.
