Undergraduate Student Affairs Specialist

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is currently seeking an Undergraduate Student Affairs Specialist, which is an innovative, full-time, live-in, professional staff member committed to creating and sustaining supportive learning environments and helping students to reach their curricular and co-curricular goals. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Residence Life and Activities and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, the UG Student Affairs Specialist position will entail the following:

Responsibilities: 

  1. Assist with tracking and monitoring Student Affairs divisional priorities.
  2. Provide administrative, logistical, and project support for the daily activities of the Division of UG Student Affairs.
  3. Be visible, available, accessible, and approachable to all students and attend hall programs and activities.
  4. Participate in the training, and support of Resident Assistant (RA) staff.
  5. Serve as a student affairs liaison with other campus agencies, including Facilities, Public Safety, Aramark (both Housekeeping and Facilities), Athletics, International Programs, Career Services, Office of Diversity, Center for Student Success etc.
  6. Serve as part of on-call duty rotation and provide emergency response during evenings, weekends, and holidays- or as needed.
  7. When notified of emergency situations, support must be provided as needed on a 24/7 basis (even if overtime will be incurred).
  8. Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the University of Pikeville.
  9. Assist with summer related activities or projects that might include but are not limited to: staff training coordination, summer housing, and room assignments.
  10. Manage the student workers for the Student Affairs front desk and other Student workers as assigned.
  11. Project management related to conformance to regulations and associated reporting.
  12. Work collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive, and student-centered environment, and with students of various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships: 

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, students, faculty, and staff in order to effectively coordinate undergraduate student affairs. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, fax, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and a commitment to the college mission and purpose; high academic standards; and student success.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evening and weekends as needed.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, faculty, and the general public.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with students, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to efficiently multitask and conduct/complete independent work assignments.
  • Experience using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • At least one (1) year previous experience as a Hall Director, Resident Assistant, or other Student Affairs related leadership role is preferred.
