Graduate Assistant - Bowling

The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky is seeking an innovative professional for the Graduate Assistant for the Bowling program. This is an exceptional opportunity for a  motivated and qualified person to join an innovative Athletic Department valuing academic and out-of-classroom experiences. The GA Bowling coach will report to the Director of Bowling and the Head Coaches of the Men’s and Women’s Bowling programs. The GA Bowling Coach is responsible for assisting in developing and maintaining a successful Bowling program.

Responsibilities:

  • Doing office work and agendas for travel plans.
  • Helping the coaches conduct practices.
  • Responsible for budget preparation and management.
  • Responsible to understand the expectations of the Bowling team.
  • Provides for the safety of students and coaches, facilities and equipment while conducting activities/practice/competitions.
  • Regularly attends and participates in department meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with campus constituents to assess, provide and improve student experience related to Bowling.
  • Understanding the NAIA, MSC, and USBC eligibility rules.
  • Develop camps, lessons, and growing the sport of bowling.
  • Helping other athletic programs when available.
  • Van driving.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications - Education and Experience:

  • College degree required.
  • Experience in College Bowling. 
  • Must be able to work under challenging conditions.
  • Willing to work late/flexible hours.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work with others and follow instructions.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
  • Understand how to work successfully as a team within all levels of the organization and know how to contribute to the mission of the university.
  • Optional experience of drilling bowling balls or other pro shop duties.

**Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan. However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
