FWS - Allara Library, Library Assistant I - 22-23

Responsibilities: 1. Administration and operation of Circulation Desk • Provide high-quality customer service to meet patron's needs. • Checking in/out library materials. • Ensuring the integrity, privacy, and confidentiality of patron records and transactions. •Answer the phone and relay questions to appropriate staff when necessary. 2. Assisting library users with basic reference, resource, and technology questions •Assisting patrons with locating library items through a familiarity with the layout of the library and its collections and services. •Providing patrons with library policies related to reserves, printing, appropriate computer use, etc. • Providing some basic technology support, such as how to use Canvas, accessing email, and using basic office software. • Assisting with copiers, printers, and library equipment. • Answering directional and informational questions, both library related and campus- wide. 3. Collection maintenance • Shelving and shifting materials accurately. • Cleaning shelves and maintaining assigned areas. • Conduct shelf reading for collection inventory. 4. Additional tasks as assigned Preferred Skills: • Computer knowledge, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Social Media & New Technology. • Attention to detail. • Strong active listening abilities. • Public speaking. • Written & verbal communication. • Customer focused. • Willingness to learn new things.

Work Schedule: The priority work schedule for this available position is primarily evenings. Work hours can be flexible to accommodate the students' class schedule and extracurricular activities.

Additional Comments: The position of Library Assistant I is for students who have an interest in working in a library environment and learning more about Frank M. Allara Library. Prior library experience is not required. Library training and meetings are mandatory. Students must also adhere to library policies for student assistants. Preferred applicants are punctual, detail oriented, and can follow instructions to complete projects and tasks as assigned. Work schedules are determined upon hiring, and are established around class, work, and extracurricular activities.
