Graduate Assistant - Coordinator of Intramural Sports

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is actively seeking candidates for a Graduate Assistant-Coordinator of Intramural Sports position. The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Center for Student Engagement personnel in developing and organizing a comprehensive intramural sport program that serves the diverse population at the University of Pikeville, including the Undergraduate and Graduate and Health Professional students.

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee daily management and supervision of intramural sports leagues, participants, supervisors, gaming officials, and fields and play areas.
  2. Assist with the responsibilities for recruitment and hiring of student staff for the intramural sports program.
  3. Lead and oversee training sessions for the student sports official, office assistants, and supervisors.
  4. Create and coordinate schedules for leagues and student staff.
  5. Serve as professional staff for night time and weekend intramural events.
  6. Conduct performance evaluations with the intramural student sports officials.
  7. Assist in coordinating the logistics of the daily operations within the intramural sports program.
  8. Responsible for the direct supervision of the student sports officials, league coordinators and supervisors.
  9. Assist the Center for Student Engagement personnel in overseeing the planning of intramural events such as leagues and/or tournaments.
  10. Assist in the maintenance and tracking of intramural equipment and make suggestions for equipment budget allocations.
  11. Participate in the revision of the intramural policies and procedures, as well as the calendar schedule for each academic year.
  12. Track, maintain, and organize intramural participation statistics for annual reports.
  13. Adhere to daily office hours.
  14. Assist with departmental special events.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Commitment:

  • Graduate Assistant has applied and accepted at the University of Pikeville, in a master’s program.
  • Graduate Assistant is expected to work 20 hours per week each semester.
  • Graduate Assistant will attend the bi-weekly department meetings.
  • Graduate Assistant will co-direct the intramural work-study students.
  • If at any time a Graduate Assistant cannot make a scheduled event or needs time off for personal reasons, they are required to notify their direct supervisor.
  • Nights and weekends are required.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, students, supervisor, employees of the institution, as well as vendors in order to answer questions, place orders and make sure paperwork is completed. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, fax, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of bachelor’s degree in a related field (Health, Athletic Training, Sports Management, or a related field).
  • Ability to work evenings/nights and weekends.
  • Knowledge and understanding of officiating rules and principles applicable to the intramural sports provided.
  • Experience with training, supervising, and working with students for evaluation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and confidence of intramural sports and recreation activities for a diverse group set of students.

**Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan. However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
