FWS - Allara Library, Returning Special Collections Assistant II -22-23

Responsibilities: 1. Scanning rare books, photos, newspaper clippings and other archival papers as needed for preservation purposes, or for inclusion in the digital archives. 2. Entering archival collection data into ArchivesSpace to help create finding aids. 3. Sorting archival materials and placing them in acid-free folders and document boxes. 4. Performing preservation photocopying of selected archival materials. 5. Assists with preservation of rare books and archival collections by dusting or cleaning books and shelves, and assisting with special projects, as needed. Preferred Skills: • Computer knowledge, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Social Media & New Technology. • Attention to detail. • Strong active listening abilities. • Public speaking. • Written & verbal communication. • Customer focused. • Willingness to learn new things.

Work Schedule: The priority work schedule is our open hours and during special events. Work hours can be flexible to accommodate the students' class schedule: • Saturday & Sunday: Varies depending on workload • Monday-Thursday: 7:30am - 12:00am • Friday: 7:30am - 5:00pm

Additional Comments: The position of Special Collections Assistant II is for returning students who have prior experience with the Special Collections and Archives of Frank M. Allara Library. This position will build on previous training and knowledge gained while working with rare and unique items housed in the Archives collection. Returning applicants should be detail oriented, can follow instructions to complete projects and tasks as assigned, and have an interest in the continued curation of the universities unique collection.
