Coordinator of Diversity and International Affairs

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), is actively seeking candidates for the Coordinator of Diversity and International Affairs. This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Diversity and International Affairs in developing, planning, organizing, and hosting a variety of events and programs related to diversity, equity, and international student initiatives. The coordinator will, in collaboration with the Director of Diversity and International Affairs, be central in providing support for the University of Pikeville’s most marginalized populations and offer visa and immigration advising as the lead designated school official (DSO). This includes assisting the director and primary designated school official (PDSO) in the evaluation of students as well as compliance with SEVP and ICE government regulations while processing international student applications and inputting accepted incoming international students into the SEVIS system.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Assists with planning, organizing, and hosting a variety of events and programming for students, faculty, and staff related to diversity and international students and actively participate in ongoing university wide initiatives.
  2. Assists with the execution of annual communication and social media plans for the office of Diversity and International Affairs.
  3. In collaboration with the Director participate in data collection and management to ensure accurate information is provided to the Institutional Research Office.
  4. Work closely with international students, their families, and sponsors to provide comprehensive guidance and support regarding all aspects of the admissions process, including obtaining lawful entry into the U.S. upon obtaining admission within the chosen programs of study.
  5. Continuously maintain knowledge of federal immigration regulations through training with SETA (Student & Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) External Training Application) or equivalent training.
  6. Assist faculty, coaches, and staff with diversity and international programs and promote the critical role of diverse and international students throughout the university and local community.
  7. In collaboration with the director establish, document, evaluate, and report on measurable operational and learning outcomes for the Office of Diversity and International Affairs and students they serve.
  8. Supervise and provide leadership for the student staff working within the Office of Diversity and International Affairs.
  9. Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  10. Serve as an advocate for marginalized and international students within a student
    development framework.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisors, alumni, students, prospective students, parents, and the public to collaborate, update and exchange information. These relationships are maintained through telephone, e-mail, and person-to-person contact.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and 3 years experience in Higher Education.
  • Experience in working in admissions or international admissions.
  • US citizen/permanent resident to perform SEVIS duties.
  • Experience with marginalized and/or international students and knowledge of a language other than English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and resolve problems and conflicts in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Familiarity with non-US countries and cultures.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Passport.
  • Demonstration of excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including oral, written, telephone and email.
  • Proficiency in database, word processing, spreadsheet applications and Internet research.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and external contacts; sensitive to cultural differences when working with people from other cultures; ability to exercise discretion
    on confidential matters.
  • Demonstrate administrative and analytical skills; discerning in determining when additional consultation is needed.
  • Ability to drive a 12-passenger university van.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure of a deadline.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
