Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), seeks a dynamic and creative Director of Athletic Communications and Digital Media interested in the continued development and growth of the University's Athletic Media. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and accomplished professional to join a progressive athletics team and innovative university environment. The position will manage and oversee all aspects of Athletics Media, in accordance with University of Pikeville, Mid-South Conference, and NAIA regulations. This position must have a commitment to providing quality media coverage of our Athletic programs for fans and students while supporting the direction of the University.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate press releases for upikebears.com and local media outlets.
  2. Develop successful and lasting working relationships with local media outlets.
  3. Ability to reach out to news outlets for the dissemination of UPIKE Athletics news.
  4. Knowledge of and ability to properly stat all athletic contests.
  5. Ability to research and maintain stat archives for all athletic teams.
  6. Develop and maintain biographical information of student athletes and coaches for all athletic teams.
  7. Handle entry and voting for Mid-South and NAIA weekly and yearly award nominations.
  8. Work to develop creative content for the Athletics Department.
  9. Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, the strength and conditioning staff, and other university departments.
  10. Communicates with parents and the Parent Connections Office on-campus on the success of students and activities.
  11. Display a committed effort to understanding and promoting the University’s mission.
  12. Complete and maintain all necessary office work.
  13. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with coaches, student athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff in order to communicate information about the athletics program at the University of Pikeville. In addition, the position requires collaboration with the Family Connections Office on-campus to communicate and engage current families or prospective families. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact. 

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience managing budgets is preferred.
  • Familiarity with prestosports.
  • Previous experience producing live streams for Athletic Events.
  • Ability to utilize InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. computer, fax machine, copier, and telephone.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web, as well as creating online travel arrangements.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to travel.
