Adjunct Professor - College of Arts and Sciences

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia, is currently seeking adjunct faculty who are passionate about teaching and student learning for the College of Arts and Sciences.

The University is always looking to build a resume pool for possible adjunct faculty in the various disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and math/science areas. In particular, there tends to be a need for adjunct faculty assistance in the following fields:

  • Math & Sciences
    • Biology - particularly Anatomy & Physiology
    • Chemistry
    • Mathematic
  • Social Sciences
    • Communication
    • Psychology
    • Sociology
    • Criminal Justice
    • Social Work
    • History
  • Humanities
    • English
    • Spanish
    • Religion
    • Film & Media Arts
    • Music
    • English as a Second Language

 The adjunct professor is expected to teach in the College of Arts and Sciences program while accepting the following responsibilities:   

  1. Teaching the assigned course, this includes lecture notes, presentation prep, exam questions prep, and syllabus prep.
  2. Participating in orientation sessions and departmental planning activities.
  3. Providing educational support for students on an as-need basis.
  4. Responsibilities for all other duties as assigned by the Dean.

 Requirements:

  1. Must have a minimum of a master’s degree and at least 18 graduate hour in the discipline of teaching interest.
  2. Must have excellent organizational, communication, teaching and decision-making skills.
  3. Experience using Joule and/or other web-based learning management system is preferred.

Positions are available in the spring, summer and fall semesters on an as needed basis. Classes are offered days, evenings, and online.
