IWS - Student Success - Center for Academic Excellence - CAE Tutor - Spring -23

Assist the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) with conducting tutoring and study sessions. This position will utilize an appropriate learning and growing environment for all students on campus. The tutor will work with assigned students individually or in groups to develop vital learning skills, build relationships, and maintain students’ performance within the semester. The tutor will also create guidelines and helpful materials for assigned coursework. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide academic support to students in completing academic coursework throughout the semester.
  2. Conduct online, asynchronous, and face-to-face tutoring sessions and workshops
  3. Maintain a positive and effective environment in individual and group sessions
  4. Set realistic goals for each tutoring session with students and follow up on progress toward achieving those goals
  5. Assist student-athletes with assigned academic requirements:
    1. execute specific plans for each student-athlete created by the Athletic Coordinator
    2. Follow appropriate procedures to document and submit student’s progress to CAE Staff
  6. Maintain accurate records and data after each tutoring session
  7. Assist Senior Tutor with developing marketing and learning materials
    1. Create and submit to Senior Tutor tutoring videos, print materials, and online content
  8. Professionally represent the CAE:
    1. Interaction with faculty, staff, and other campus constituents
    2. Represent the office at various events
    3. Maintain a positive mindset and respect student’s needs, abilities, and confidentialities
  9. Remain open to the ever-evolving nature of the center

Relationships:

This position requires daily communication with co-workers, supervisors, students, faculty, and staff to coordinate the tutoring program effectively. These relationships are maintained via email, fax, telephone, and person-to-person contact. 

 Reports to:

Director of the Center for Academic Excellence and Athletic Coordinator

Education/ Skill Qualifications:

  1. Successful completion of the courses with a B or better to tutor
  2. Must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA
  3. Computer knowledge and online student software, I.e., Canvas, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and New Technology
  4. Proven outstanding written and verbal communication
  5. Work performance under deadlines and occasional increase in tutoring sessions

Work Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:

  1. Work is performed inside under normal office conditions. Computer time is included in daily working hours
  2. Occasional nights or weekends are required

Physical demands included here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully:

  1. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  2. Keyboarding
  3. Reaching/ Handling
