Graduate Assistant - Fitness Center

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Graduate Assistant/Coordinator for the Fitness Center, who is responsible for aiding the day-to-day facilitation of evening and weekend services of the UPIKE Fitness Center. This individual will support programs that promote student success through social, cultural, multicultural, educational, and recreational activities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the daily operation of the Fitness Center, including weekday and weekend programming.
  2. Train and Supervise Fitness Center Team Members and Team Leaders, following up on scheduling and cleaning schedules.
  3. Coordinate off-campus transportation shuttles to local venues, including regional day trips and airport shuttles; supervise a group of student certified drivers, and assist with the weekly transportation to Food City/Walmart.
  4. Assist with major campus events, including New Student Orientation, GROWL Days, Homecoming Week, Campus Wide Student Activities Programs, and Graduation Week.
  5. Assist in the development and implementation of a marketing plan to promote campus activity programming to the campus community, residence halls, and to the local community (when appropriate) and to engage student interest.
  6. Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision.
  7. Maintains accurate records of all student activities events and activities (including event proposals, budgets, contacts, contracts, media/publicity, and evaluations)
  8. Performs all other duties as assigned.
  9. Compliance Responsibilities: Insure that mandated requirements are met and that documentation is maintained per policies and procedures; insure that any and all assigned personnel are fully trained and qualified to perform job duties and responsibilities; insure that certification and qualifications are maintained per job description.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with athletes, parents, faculty, staff, student workers, coaches, and community members in order to exchange information. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Enrolled in a Master’s degree program at the University of Pikeville.
  • Willing to work late evenings and weekends.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Must also demonstrate strong conceptual planning, excellent communication, and organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong understanding of extracurricular student activities.

**Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan. However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
