Director of Athletic Communications & Digital Media

The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky seeks a dynamic and creative Director of Athletic Communications and Digital Media interested in the continued development and growth of the University’s Athletic Media. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and accomplished professional to join a progressive athletics team and innovative university environment. The position will manage and oversee all aspects of Athletics Media, in accordance with University of Pikeville, Mid-South Conference, and NAIA regulations. This position must have a commitment to providing quality media coverage of our Athletic programs for fans and students while supporting the direction of the University.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the main point of contact for upikebears.com and manage the website.
  2. Manage UPIKE Athletics Social Media channels.
  3. Spearhead UPIKE Athletics branding efforts.
  4. Continued growth and management of Athletics Department live production of Athletic events.
  5. Manage the UPIKE Sports network and ensure that all home events are livestreamed.
  6. Create special publications and new media for all Athletic Teams.
  7. Record statistics for all UPIKE Athletic teams.
  8. Write game recaps for all UPIKE Athletic events.
  9. Work with the UPIKE Athletics Hall of Fame committee to conduct Hall of Fame inductions and update the Hall of Fame displays.
  10. Develop relationships for sponsorships and create new ways to display sponsorships on game days.
  11. Maintain brand management for materials, apparel, and facility signage.
  12. Work to develop creative content for the Athletics Department.
  13. Manage budget, supplies, and equipment.
  14. Develop in-venue entertainment for all athletic events.
  15. Develop and maintain relationships with local news agencies to provide coverage of Athletic Events.
  16. Organize and oversee travel arrangements for the Athletics Media team to cover events.
  17. Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, the strength and conditioning staff, and other university departments.
  18. Communicates with parents and the Parent Connections Office on-campus on the success of students and activities.
  19. Display a committed effort to understanding and promoting the University’s mission.
  20. Complete and maintain all necessary office work.
  21. Models’ nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  22. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with coaches, student athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff in order to communicate information about the athletics program at the University of Pikeville. In addition, the position requires collaboration with the Family Connections Office on-campus to communicate and engage current families or prospective families. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact. The UPIKE sports information department should identify, foster, and support a culture of excellence. Our coaches inspire faculty, staff, students, and our surrounding community. They should model integrity, leadership, and transparency across campus. The Director of Athletic Communications and Digital Media must collaborate on a plan to build bridges with key offices across campus including but not limited to: Student Affairs, Public Affairs, Advancement, Admissions, and the Business Office.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience is required.
  • Previous experience managing budgets is preferred.
  • Familiarity with editing products and equipment is also preferred.
  • Previous experience producing live streams for Athletic Events.
  • Ability to utilize InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Ability to organize and distribute the workload among members of the Athletic Communications staff.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. computer, fax machine, copier, and telephone.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web, as well as creating online travel arrangements.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to travel.
