Peer Mentor - Upward Bound

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia is actively seeking Peer Mentors for its Upward Bound Program for the summer. The position of Peer Mentor is a temporary position, which is dependent on continued federal grant funding.

Each Peer Mentor will be expected to assist with, contribute to, and participate in all planned participant activities both on- and off-campus. Selected candidates must commit to the projects’ policies, including absolutely no dating of participants, on-duty 24 hours, confidentiality, proper referral procedures, and possess the ability to exemplify and demonstrate professional etiquette and demeanor.

Successful candidates will be post secondary students in good academic and social standing. Candidates will demonstrate the ability to identify with the social, cultural, economic, and academic barriers experienced by project participants. Successful candidates will demonstrate behavior suitable for a role model, academic strength useful to the participants and the desire and abilities for a mentoring relationship.
