HVAC Technician

The University of Pikeville is seeking qualified candidates for the position of HVAC Technician. The position will ensure efficient operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems of all campus facilities within the University of Pikeville. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Install, repair and maintain HVAC equipment and perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment as well as work with pneumatic and electronic controls. 
  2. Fabricate and install various sizes, shapes and lengths of ductwork to support maintenance, and construction projects.
  3. Must balance air flow systems. Adapt and size new ducts to accept hydronic heating and cooling coils with pneumatic controls and electronic controls.
  4. Diagnose problems, consider alternative solutions, and select and implement the most effective solution without close supervision.
  5. Assist with general maintenance repairs and perform preventative maintenance tasks as directed.
  6. Assist in the maintenance of campus grounds, including painting, pressure washing, etc.
  7. Provide support for events held on campus by clubs, organizations, committees, etc.
  8. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires continuous contact with co-workers, supervisor, staff, and students in order to communicate the needs of the campus and direct maintenance. Relationships are typically maintained through daily person-to-person contact and work orders.

 Education/Skill Requirements:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and four years of appropriate experience in HVAC related work is required.
  • Possession of a journeyman or master HVAC license is required.
  • General working knowledge of HVAC distribution and mechanical codes is required.
  • General mechanical skills and some electrical experience is required.
  • Requires the ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
