Graduate Assistant - Event Services

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is actively seeking candidates for a Graduate Assistant for Event Services position. The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Event Services personnel in the day-to-day operations. This includes overseeing student workers, assisting with night and weekend event setups, and supporting the department with various administrative tasks. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the department's events and activities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Set up and take down events, portable chairs, staging, tables, pipe and drape, flooring, and other equipment for the successful execution of events.
  2. Supervise and train student workers to ensure a high standard of service is provided to clients.
  3. Operates equipment, such as pallet jacks, and scrubbing machines. 
  4.  Provides debris removal and other general labor and janitorial duties, as needed. 
  5. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair event equipment.
  6. Transport equipment to and from offsite storage, as is necessary. 
  7. Assist students, clients, and university visitors as needed.
  8. Attend and participate in planning, training, and staff meetings.
  9. Assists with various department and organization projects and special assignments as needed.
  10. Reports to work when scheduled, on time, in proper and clean uniform. Personal appearance and grooming must conform to Conference and Event Services dress code.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Commitment:

  •  Graduate Assistant is expected to work 20 hours per week each semester. ● Graduate Assistant will attend the bi-weekly department meetings.
  •  Graduate Assistant will co-direct the event services work-study students.
  •  If at any time a Graduate Assistant cannot make a scheduled event or needs time off for personal reasons, they are required to notify their direct supervisor.
  •  Nights and weekends are required.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, students, supervisor, employees of the institution, as well as vendors in order to answer questions, place orders and make sure paperwork is completed. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, fax, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • ● Must have a minimum of bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • ● Ability to work evenings/nights and weekends.
  • ● Previous experience working in event setup or related field is preferred.
  • ● Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedules and produce accurate results in a fast-paced environment.
  • ● Experience with training, supervising, and working with students for evaluation.

**Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan. However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
