Director of Professional Development

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia, is currently seeking applicants for its Director of Professional Development, responsible for leading initial training and continued education and support for faculty, staff, and health care professionals for undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools. The Director collaborates with appropriate personnel to ensure employees are provided with support and mentoring, and will hold the rank of Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Collaborate on the assessment of professional development needs at the University of Pikeville.
  2. Develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of professional development programs.
  3. Develop, administer, and assess programs and activities to assist instructors in developing and sustaining inter-disciplinary collaborative efforts.
  4. Facilitate university-wide responses to educational challenges and issues; develop, evaluate, and encourage best practices in employee support and assessment.
  5. Facilitate training for and effective use of core educational technologies (LMS, lecturecapture, videoconferencing, etc.).
  6. Collaborate with the professional school deans on goals for professional development as it relates to accreditation standards. This includes the Osteopathic Medical School, Optometry School, and Dental School.
  7. Track attendance at professional development programs.
  8. Serve on committees and task forces as assigned.
  9. Assist in the development of, and manage annual professional development budget.
  10. Perform other duties as required or requested in this position.

Relationships: 

Position requires daily face-to-face contact with co-workers, supervisor, external vendors, students, faculty, and staff in order to disseminate necessary information and coordinate for daily operations. These relationships are maintained through person-to-person contact, phone, e-mail, and videoconferencing.

Education/Skill Requirements: 

  • Master's degree is required. Doctoral Degree (or equivalent) in Education or related field is preferred.
  • Teaching or employee development experience is required.
  • Knowledge of adult educational theory, assessment, and program evaluation is required.
  • Evidence of cultivating a learner-centered environment is required.
  • Experience in instructional design is preferred.
  • Must possess excellent verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate organization ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and have the capacity to exercise good judgment.
  • Must be proficient in technology commonly used in in-person and online university-level education, and have the ability to learn new platforms/programs/applications.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
