Staff Accountant

The University of Pikeville is seeking applications for the position of Staff Accountant for the office of Business Affairs. This position is responsible for providing assistance and support to the Controller of the Business Affairs department by performing the following:

Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and execute journal entries for the General Ledger.
  2. Prepare deposits from daily cash receipting, and take deposit to the bank, as needed.
  3. Assist cashier with cash receipts, invoices, student deposits, and other payments as needed.
  4. Assist in accounts payable processes, including but not limited to, data entry, payment processing, analyzing payment information provided.
  5. Assist in accounts receivables analysis, communication, and refund processes.
  6. Invoice and track payment for scholarships and other outside billing for accounts receivable.
  7. Assist with audit as needed.
  8. Check balance of agency funds in order to authorize expenses against the account.
  9. Assist in budget process.
  10. Review general ledger accounts for correct posting of transactions to match intended budgeted location.
  11. Review budget to actual reports on a monthly basis.
  12. Assist with payroll as needed.
  13. Assist with policy development and management.
  14. Assist Associate VP in Bear Pause (Clearance) Process and Management.
  15. Assist with special projects as they arise.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, parents, students, board members, and various campus departments in order to supply information, manage workflow, resolve issues with student accounts, and exchange information. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Management, or related field.
  • At least 1-3 years’ experience in related position.
  • Ability to maintain various open projects.
  • Ability to prioritize items based on importance.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. computer, copier, printer, telephone.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to perform simple calculations.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web.
