Event Staff Member (Part-Time, On-Call)

The University of Pikeville is actively seeking a Part-Time, On-Call Event Staff Member to support the Conference and Event Services department.  This position will primarily focus on event setup and tear down, cleaning and maintenance services as needed to support an outstanding student/visitor experience as well as adequately maintain the ongoing cleanliness and appearance of the University.

Responsibilities:

  1. Set up and take down events, portable chairs, staging, tables, pipe and drape, flooring, and other equipment for the successful execution of events.
  2. Operates equipment, such as pallet jacks, and scrubbing machines.
  3. Provides debris removal and other general labor activities.
  4. Maintain and repair event equipment.
  5. Transport equipment to and from offsite storage, as is necessary.
  6. Perform general maintenance and janitorial duties as needed.
  7. Assist students, clients, and university visitors as needed.
  8. Attend and participate in planning, training, and staff meetings.
  9. Assists with various department and organization projects and special assignments as needed.
  10. Reports to work when scheduled, on time, in proper and clean uniform. Personal appearance and grooming must conform to Conference and Event Services dress code.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisors, alumni, students, prospective students, parents, and the general public in order to collaborate on and manage projects, update and exchange information, and provide general information through social media and Web services. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, social networking media, the Web site, and person-to-person information.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience working in event setup or related field is preferred.
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
  • Professional appearance and positive attitude are essential.
  • Have a working knowledge of hand tools.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly with clients and colleagues.
