Staff Accountant

The University of Pikeville is seeking applications for the position of Staff Accountant for the office of Business Affairs. This position is responsible for providing assistance and support to the Controller of the Business Affairs department by performing the following:

Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and execute journal entries for the General Ledger.
  2. Prepare deposits from daily cash receipting.
  3. Post cash receipts, invoices, student deposits, and financial aid to General Ledger.
  4. Assist in accounts payable processes.
  5. Assist in accounts receivables analysis, communication, and refund processes.
  6. Prepare daily cash analysis for general account.
  7. Take deposit to bank as needed.
  8. Assist with audit as needed.
  9. Check balance of Agency funds in order to authorize expenses against the account.
  10. Assist in budget process.
  11. Review general ledger accounts for correct posting of transactions to match intended budgeted location.
  12. Review budget to actual reports on a monthly basis.
  13. Transfer funds between accounts to facilitate payments.
  14. Maintain bank reconciliations on all bank accounts.
  15. Authorize and transmit all e-check files to the bank.
  16. Print all checks for A/P, student account refunds, and payroll.
  17. Work with Human Resources to process payroll. Pay all payroll liabilities, process payroll liabilities, prepare payroll reports (monthly, quarterly, annual).
  18. Update investment balances as statements are received.
  19. Maintain procurement card statements, approvals, and transactions.
  20. Assist in managing federal and state grants.
  21. Assist Associate VP in Bear Pause (Clearance) Process and Management.
  22. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Management, or related field.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in related position.
  • Ability to maintain various open projects.
  • Ability to prioritize items based on importance.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. computer, copier, printer, telephone.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to perform simple calculations.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web. 

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, parents, students, board members, and various campus departments in order to supply information, manage workflow, resolve issues with student accounts, and exchange information. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.
