Director of Student Financial Services

The University of Pikeville seeks a dynamic and creative professional interested in leading and directing the University’s Financial Aid Department. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and accomplished professional to join a progressive financial aid team. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Director of Student Financial Services will lead, supervise, and manage all staff and functions of the Financial Aid Department. The successful candidate will have the ability to serve as a spokesperson for the mission and values of the institution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Fully utilize all available financial aid systems/software to deliver excellent service, timely and accurate data and improve efficiency.
  2. Compile, maintain and submit reports as mandated by the Department of Education and State Agencies.
  3. Administer all professional judgment/special condition appeals.
  4. Audit and reconcile institutional, state, and federal programs and report to senior administration and outside agencies.
  5. Maintain Department of Education acknowledgements/changes and circulate new information to appropriate parties.
  6. Develop and manage institutional scholarship and aid budgets.
  7. Coordinate financial aid portion of annual A-133 Audit.
  8. Conduct/direct FAFSA regional and institutional workshops as required.
  9. Oversee prospective/current student budgets, packaging, verification and withdrawals.
  10. Work with various offices and participate as needed to have successful orientation and clearance processes and events.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

 Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Business preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Accounting or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in similar position, with knowledge of all institutional, federal, and state Financial Aid programs.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Must possess excellent communication, both written and oral, and organization skills. Some public speaking skills necessary.
  • Must possess excellent problem-solving and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. computer, copier, printer, fax machine, telephone.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to perform complex calculations.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web, as well as making online travel arrangements.
  • Must display creativity and resourcefulness in order to find efficiencies in workflow and processes and to continually improve service to students and other constituencies within the institution. 

Relationships: 

Position requires daily contact with prospective/current students and parents, supervisor, administration, the general public, and various agencies (COD, KHEAA, DOE) in order to communicate information, provide financial counseling, resolve issues, and make corrections to financial packaging. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, text messaging, fax machine, and person-to-person contact.
