Assistant Dean, College of Arts & Sciences (Internal CAS Applicants ONLY)

The Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is open to internal, full-time CAS candidates at UPIKE. The successful candidate will foster a high-quality environment of academic teaching, service, and scholarship to strengthen partnerships within and outside of CAS. The position supports the development of new and enhancement of current academic programs in addition to supporting the needs of students and faculty. With an innovative spirit, the Assistant Dean will play an integral role in collaborating with other stakeholders to continue the growth and development of CAS.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the Assistant Dean will assist the Dean in the following areas:

  1. Support CAS with development of new academic programs and curriculum enhancement of current programs.
  2. Serve as a liaison between the Dean’s office and CAS programs /other campus units when requested.
  3. Collaborate with the CAS Dean and University Registrar on the development of course schedules and student registration processes.
  4. Maintain good working relationships with faculty and administration in all academic and non-academic sectors.
  5. Represent CAS on different committees when CAS Dean is unavailable.
  6. Communicate effectively with constituents within the University,surrounding community, and State regarding the University.
  7. Attend conferences and seminars to inform the campus community of teaching, learning, and advising trends and concepts.
  8. Lead and manage special projects as assigned.

The Assistant Dean will retain her/his faculty status and salary. This is a part-time administrative position that involves six credits of course release and a stipend of $5,000 per semester ($10,000 per academic year). The successful candidate must be able to take the course releases. Work over the summer is not expected, although the position may grow into a 12-month appointment. This is a one-year appointment that begins in January 2021.


  1. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. from a regionally accredited or currently enrolled in a doctoral program.
  2. Administrative experience in higher education.
  3. Experience working with technology, particularly integrating technology into courses in innovative ways that enhance student engagement and learning.
  4. Commitment to collaboration, interdisciplinarity, and innovation.
  5. Ability to communicate and develop relationships and partnerships within the University and local community.
  6. Dedication to completing projects in a timely manner.
  7. Demonstrated congruence with the University of Pikeville mission.
  8. A history of demonstrating strong character and outstanding integrity.
