Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing

The University of Pikeville is dedicated to excellence in instruction and fulfillment of learner outcomes. The College of Nursing and Human Services seeks to hire an innovative and student-centered Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing. This individual will provide full-time didactic, clinical and/or skills lab instruction for students within the Nursing program. Faculty must have a strong commitment to teaching and the ability to work effectively with others in a collegial environment. In addition, faculty must be dedicated to engaging students in an academic and clinical setting.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide instruction for the assigned course, including clinical supervision, patient assignments, clinical paperwork, pre-post conference, assisting with return skill demonstration, and fostering clinical decision-making.
  2. Engage students in the classroom and clinical environment by promoting innovative teaching and learning practices.
  3. Provide clinical evaluation as required and meet one-on-one with students to strengthen clinical decision-making.
  4. Advise undergraduate students and provide service to the university and community.
  5. Participate in curriculum development and systematic program evaluation and continue professional development.
  6. Maintain close communication with the course leader or supervising faculty.
  7. Maintain health records, an unencumbered KY RN license, and other documentation as required by the Elliott School of Nursing or health agencies.
  8. Responsibilities for all other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, students, student workers, patients, parents, and local hospitals to discuss collaborative efforts, and generally share information. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, text, and person-to-person contact.

 Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Degree and clinical experience within the last two years.
  • Must hold a valid license to practice as an RN in the state of Kentucky prior to the start date of the appointment.
  • All required university, state, and accrediting criteria for employment as a nursing faculty member must be maintained for continued employment.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience is highly desired, as well as interest in developing simulation learning and online course delivery.
  • Must have excellent organizational, communication, teaching and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Prior experience with electronic health documentation and simulation is strongly preferred.
