Operations/Assistant Coach - MBB/WBB

The University of Pikeville is seeking an Operations/Assistant Coach to assist the Head Coach with the management and administration of all activities related to the Men’s and Women’s basketball programs. The Operations/Assistant Coach is responsible for adhering to the University rules and policy, Mid-South Conference and NAIA rules while supporting the mission and core values of the basketball programs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with development and implementation of a comprehensive recruiting strategy and successfully retain student athletes.
  2. Coordinate all travel related schedules, pre and post-game meals, lodging and overnight accommodations.
  3. Effectively participate in daily program operations, establishment/enforcement of team rules, and communication with athletic training staff.
  4. Schedule academic study sessions for student athletes and addresses academic issues early in order to ensure student academic success and eligibility requirements are met.
  5. Serve as the NAIA Eligibility Center Coordinator as well as Champions of Character Events Coordinator.
  6. Assist new and returning students with the Admissions and Financial Aid processes.
  7. Facilitate scheduling camps and serving as an Equipment Manager/Liaison
  8. Frequent overnight travel with student athletes is required during the season.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisors, student athletes, prospective student athletes, parents, and the general public in order to monitor players, give/receive information and feedback, schedule/coordinate games and practices, and direct workflow. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, written communication, and person-to-person contact.

Education & Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Previous collegiate coaching experience (3-5 years) is preferred.
  • Previous experience mentoring assistant coaches/staff, junior college recruiting, and fundraising is desired.
  • Thorough knowledge of recruiting practices and understanding of Mid-South Conference and NAIA regulations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and time management skills are required.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and provide critical thinking; consultation related to ongoing program improvement.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated exceptional character, integrity, fairness and professional demeanor.
