Assistant Athletic Trainer

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia is actively seeking candidates for an Assistant Athletic Trainer in the Athletics Department.  The successful athletic trainer is expected to perform all duties required for multiple sports teams of the University of Pikeville.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide coverage for athletic practice sessions and game events, both home and away.
  2. Work specifically with Men’s Soccer, Women’s Basketball, Tennis and Track and Field as well as help with other sports on an as-needed basis.
  3. Supervise work-study and scholarship students helping in the athletic training department.
  4. Maintain athletic training rooms as needed in order to provide the best athletic training experience possible for student athletes.
  5. Perform administrative duties as needed.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training.
  • Certification for the national Athletic Trainers’ Association - Board of Certification.
  • Must be familiar with operating modalities and sports-related equipment, e.g. e-stim/ultrasound machine, ice machine, whirlpool, water boys.
  • Must be self-sufficient.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to perform simple calculations.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web, as well as creating online travel arrangements.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, student workers, athletes, parents, school administrators other coaches, physical therapists, doctors, and doctor office staff in order to share information about the athletic program of the University of Pikeville. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.
