Standardized Patient/Human Model Program Coordinator

The University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine is currently seeking applications for a full-time Standardized Patient/Human Model Program Coordinator. Under the supervision of the Director of Simulation, the successful candidate is directly responsible for the coordination of the Standardized Patients/Human Models (SP/HM) who are trained to repeatedly and accurately simulate patients' history, physical, and psychological conditions for teaching and assessment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  1. Direct and staff the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) program including student-scheduling, communication with SP/HM, faculty and staff, and IT department to ensure that all necessary supplies/resources are present, functioning and monitor recruitment/need for additional faculty raters and staff in collaboration with the Director of Simulation and KYCOM Family Medicine Department Chair.
  2. Continuously recruit, provide initial SP/HM training and monitor SP/HM performance with retraining as needed to ensure that patient portrayals and/or ratings are standardized and meet criteria.
  3. Supervise and evaluate all SP/HM personnel.
  4. Maintain an up to date SP/HM database, and do all SP/HM marketing, recruitment and communication.
  5. Monitor budget statements.
  6. Provide administrative support to the Family Medicine Department faculty as directed by immediate supervisor. 
  7. Cross-train with and support the Clinical Sciences Administrative Assistant as directed by the Director of Simulation or the Family Medicine Department Chair.
  8. Pickup and distribution of mail on a collaborative schedule with other KYCOM staff members. 
  9. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Simulation or the Family Medicine Department Chair. 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible administrative support experience in a medical related field and/or teaching institution.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, anticipatory problem solving and attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work and complete assignments accurately within reasonably timeframes.
  • Ability to embrace diversity to best serve a growing higher education community.
  • Ability to foster excellence and innovation.
  • A history of demonstrating strong character and outstanding integrity.
  • Must have current knowledge and skills in utilizing Microsoft Office Applications including, but not limited to, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Must be able to learn and utilize Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, B-Line and the University online platform and systems.
  • Must demonstrate cooperation, courtesy and consideration when working with the professional community, KYCOM, KYCO and UPIKE communities, faculty, students, and the public.
  • Must be able to work independently and also as a member of a team.
  • Alignment with the University of Pikeville and KYCOM missions.

Relationships:

Position requires continuous contact with supervisor, clinical faculty and staff, students, adjunct faculty, and standardized patients. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.
