Director of TRIO Student Support Services

The University of Pikeville seeks a strategic and passionate leader to serve as the Director of TRIO Student Support Services. This leader provides leadership and direction for a federally funded TRIO grant program to serve the needs of first generation and low-income college students and students with disabilities. The Director will report to the Dean of Student Success and is responsible for all program components which include training, supervision and evaluation of staff, budget management, record maintenance and compliance with federal guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  1. Select, train, supervise and evaluate all staff.
  2. Develop procedures for implementing the TRIO SSS program including application and in-take processes, development of academic success plans and student advising guidelines.
  3. Facilitate accomplishment of the objectives of the TRIO SSS program by designing and implementing activities, procedures and programs.
  4. Develop and maintain an efficient record keeping system and provide reports as required.
  5. Plan and manage the TRIO SSS budget.
  6. Serve as liaison with the US Department of Education and campus personnel.
  7. Assure compliance with federal guidelines for TRIO SSS programs.
  8. Assure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  9. Recruit students for the TRIO SSS program at recruitment, registration and orientation events.
  10. Oversee assessment efforts to measure student learning, satisfaction and persistence.
  11. Participate in division of Student Success activities and events which may include evening and weekend work.
  12. Serve on campus committees.
  13. Attend meetings, training, and other requirements for TRIO and the division of Student Success.
  14. Assist with the development of grant proposals.
  15. Make presentations and otherwise represent the TRIO SSS program to the college.
  16. Serve as a liaison with outside professional organizations.
  17. Collaborate with or serve on various professional school committees. 
  18. Other responsibilities assigned by the Dean of Student Success.

Relationships:

Position requires daily professional contact with faculty, staff, supervisor, campus departments,andstudents.Theserelationshipsaremaintainedthroughe-mail,telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student services, guidance, counseling, educational psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability in such areas as personnel management, leadership and communication.
  • Familiar with TRIO programs and their purposes and be sensitive to the needs of disadvantaged students.
  • Three years of supervisory experience or progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education.
  • Proficiency with technology including TRIO-based software.
  • Ability to actively support the mission of the university by working with students, staff, and faculty to share in and promote the core values of the University of Pikeville.
  • Professional demeanor, discretion, and ability to empathize with an academic community.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to use data to continually improve approaches and processes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Team player; ability to synthesize multiple viewpoints and reach consensus.
