Assistant or Associate Professor of Digital Humanities

The University of Pikeville seeks an Assistant or Associate professor in Digital Humanities to collaborate with existing Humanities programs to forge a new interdisciplinary program in digital arts, rhetoric, media studies, and medical humanities. Applicants must either be ABD or hold a PhD or MFA in a Humanities or related Digital Humanities discipline at the time of appointment. We seek a candidate who specializes in one or more of the following areas: digital media/culture; digital methods; interactive or digital storytelling; and/or public humanities. 

This appointment will be based in one or more academic units (any of the following: Writing and Rhetoric, English, Film and Media Arts, Art) and share the University’s mission to promote cultural and economic growth and wellness in Eastern Kentucky, emphasizing the role of civic engagement and social justice. Applicants whose teaching and scholarship bridge cinematic and artistic forms are particularly welcome. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Create and maintain an environment that is conducive to innovative teaching and active learning.
  2. Emphasize broadly trained skills and a strong passion for excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship.
  3. Develop, communicate, and fulfill effective course learning outcomes.
  4. Teach courses utilizing no-cost course materials and Open Educational Resources (OERs).
  5. Compose and publish syllabi containing the items listed in the approved syllabus rubric.
  6. Teaching courses for both majors and non-majors.
  7. Advising students, providing service to the University community, assisting with divisional activities, and continuing scholarly growth and development.
  8. Ability to instruct classes using face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online modalities.
  9. Establish mutual respect with students through effective and timely communication including expectations, deadlines, and feedback on work completed.
  10. Maintain good working relationships with faculty and administration in all academic and non-academic sectors.
  11. Communicate effectively with constituents within the University, surrounding community, and State regarding the University.
  12. Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) to support classroom instruction.

Education/Sill Requirements:

  • A PhD (or terminal degree such as MFA) and undergraduate teaching experience are desired; applicants with a master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in information technology or related field and significant work experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum required English language skills are at the C1 level based on the Common European Language Framework.
  • Applicants with ABD status and within one year of completion will also be considered.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, students, faculty, and staff in order to disseminate necessary information and coordinate for daily operations. These relationships are maintained through person-to-person contact, phone, e-mail, and fax.
