Strength and Conditioning Coach

The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky seeks a dynamic and creative Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Full-Time, Athletics

Description:

The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky seeks a dynamic and creative Strength and Conditioning Coach. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning programs for all sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The Strength and Conditioning Coach devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, maintains athlete records, and supervises work study and internship students. The Strength and Conditioning Coach meets regularly with sport coaches to determine what the athletes need to focus on. If working with an injured athlete engaged in rehabilitation, the Strength and Conditioning Coach will consult with the sports medicine or athletic training staff. The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility, and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safety and professional operation of the facility.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs in‐season, off‐season, and preseason for all school‐sanctioned male and female athletic programs in a manner that reflects research driven practices and our country's Long‐Term Athletic/Fitness Development Model. 
  • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.  
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff.
  • Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines.
  • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the sport coaches.
  • Conduct an annual needs analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coaches and the team’s athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.
  • Annually conduct and review a departmental risk management plan.
  • Complete an annual budgetary proposal for the program that includes routine maintenance, purchase of new equipment, and staffing needs.
  • Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the school’s expectations.

Qualifications

  • BS in Kinesiology or related field. Masters preferred.
  • Minimum experience of 2-3 years in field.
  • A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency—for example, the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certification.
  • Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (A ED) certifications.
  • A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training. 
  • Experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for collegiate populations. 
  • Strong motivational abilities.
  • Evidence of ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues, and the public. 
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes.
  • Ability to visually monitor athletes.
  • Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs.

Safety and Health Requirements

  • Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.
  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
  • Knowledge of current Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.

Equipment/Materials Handled

  • Must know how to operate strength training equipment, automated external defibrillator (AED), and sports aid equipment.

Relationships:

In addition, the position requires collaboration with the Family Connections Office on-campus to communicate and engage current families or prospective families. Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience is required.
  • Previous experience managing budgets is preferred.
  • Familiarity with editing products and equipment is also preferred.
  • Previous experience producing live streams for Athletic Events.
  • Ability to utilize InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Ability to organize and distribute the workload among members of the Athletic Communications staff.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. computer, fax machine, copier, and telephone.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web, as well as creating online travel arrangements.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.

  3. Collaborates with academic leaders on campus to develop, maintain, and publish major University information documents, including catalogs and class schedules.

  5. Serves as a certifying official for all University sports participating in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and collaborates with Athletics to provide academic records for all athletic programs.

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) in Pikeville, Kentucky seeks a dynamic and creative professional interested in leading and directing the Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO) student affairs and academic excellence initiatives. In collaboration with the Assistant Provost of Retention and the KYCO Dean this position is responsible for wide-ranging responsibilities requiring knowledge of student development and student services, with the objective of supporting KYCO through the development and implementation of higher education best practices with an emphasis on student and academic support services and programming. This includes student engagement, success strategies, learning skills, time management, and preparation for board examinations. The position requires extensive interaction with the KYCO dean, faculty, personnel, and with the University's broader retention services team.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership by developing, planning, goal setting, implementing, evaluating, and accountability for student affairs/success, academic support services, diversity initiatives and programming.
  2. Supervise and coordinate academic support services, including tutoring, learning success strategies, skills, time management, and partnering with KYCO faculty to assist with preparation for national board examinations.
  3. Assist in coordinating and connecting students to university-wide services, including health and wellness, tutoring, the Center for Disability Resources, academic advising, registration, financial aid, co-curricular activities, and career planning.
  4. Manage KYCO co-curricular programming including orientation, Clubs and Organizations, White Coat Ceremony, Commencement, admitted student days, and student engagement events.
  5. Work with students to create a community by supporting student clubs and organizations, such as KYCO’s student government and by encouraging students to participate in co-curricular activities both in KYCO and the broader campus community, including international and domestic medical mission trips.
  6. Serve as a member of the Care Team and work closely with the Assistant Provost of Retention to provide direction and intervention for KYCO students in crisis and non-crisis situations (e.g., intervening with students in mental health crises; assisting with the administration of the student code of conduct; working with UPIKE staff and faculty to resolve student concerns; mediating and resolving conflict; conducting student referrals; etc.).
  7. Manage multiple ongoing processes, including students’ changes of status, leaves of absence, anticipated/unanticipated absences, technology and equipment distribution.
  8. Develop and manage a comprehensive KYCO student outreach and communication strategy in collaboration with the Dean’s office to include a social media presence, web content, and periodic email reminders related to registration, graduation, and other important events.
  9. Collaborate with KYCO Administration to implement programming and processes such as course remediation, board examination preparation, , academic planning, with an aim to increase overall student success.
  10. Implement an Early Alert System (EAS) for tracking academic and student success.
  11. Develops and implements regular training and workshops in conjunction with University Professional Development for faculty, administrators, staff, and professional students.
  12. Collaborates with KYCO Administration and Institutional Research to provide data regarding student affairs/success in KYCO.
  13. Provides regular reports for assessment and planning purposes to University leadership.
  14. Develops and administers the assigned budget.
  15. Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work performance of assigned personnel, peer mentors, and graduate assistants.

  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive responsibility as a leader and/or manager and managing a team to achieve goals.
  • A theoretical background in academic success and/or student affairs and experience working with professional students with a range of academic abilities including, first-generation students.
  • Strong technology skills and experience with tools for scheduling, recording, and tracking student data, assessment of student outcomes, and data analysis.
  • Experience with the use of educational technology for support and proficiency in the use of a Learning Management System and an EAS.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on nights and weekends as needed. 

Skill Requirements: 

  • Knowledge and theoretical background in effective practices in academic support services and student affairs.

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia, is currently seeking a creative, skilled, and service-oriented colleague for the position of Community Engagement and Instruction Librarian to work collaboratively with other librarians to develop programs and events based on patron interest and coordinate library participation in community events.  Will also work internally to develop strategies for programming and engagement and serve as part of the library instruction team.

Responsibilities:

Outreach

  1. Plans and coordinates special programs and events.
  2. Plans and executes social media marketing, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

  4. Plans and executes library services focus group sessions.

Instruction

Two main functions:

  1. To provide landscaping services to university owned acreage. This position is responsible for the operation of lawn maintenance equipment, including a pickup for disposing waste, and lawnmowers, trimmers, and blowers, and understand how to water, fertilize, and prune decorative shrubs and plants. We pride ourselves in keeping our campus safe and looking beautiful, so our team works in various types of weather conditions and performs maintenance duties to ensure employee safety during inclement weather by removing debris, snow, and ice from communal walkways and spaces.
  2. To provide maintenance assistance by collecting recyclables and preparing bales for pickup, and assist in campus-wide repairs and maintenance. Repairs may involve carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, etc. This position is responsible for operation of cardboard compactor, driving a vehicle to transport recyclables from various locations on campus.

 Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain the existing landscaping design and ensure plant survival.
  2. Pull weeds from flowerbeds and sidewalks.
  3. Prune trees, shrubs, and hedges.
  4. Plant new flowers, bushes, plants, and decorative shrubs.
  5. Rake fallen leaves and remove debris.
  6. Keep pedestrian areas removed of snow and ice.
  7. Properly store and handle all equipment, tools, sprinklers, fertilizer, etc.
  8. Oversee maintenance repairs to equipment, landscape structures, and hardscape walkways.

This position is for a broadly trained criminologist who is prepared to teach a range of courses in both criminal justice and sociology. Specializations are open, but the ideal applicant will have the ability to teach courses in corrections and/or the judicial system in addition to introductory level courses in both programs, complementing existing programmatic strengths.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in criminology or sociology is preferred; candidates with doctorates. in closely related fields, ABD status and within one year of completion, or with master’s degrees and significant teaching experience will also be considered. The J.D. degree alone is not sufficient for this position.
  • Professional experience, including experience in the correctional or judicial systems or in developing and maintaining community partnerships, is desired but not required and should be addressed in the cover letter.

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia, is currently seeking adjunct instructors who are passionate about teaching and student learning for the Elizabeth Akers Elliott School of Nursing.

Each semester, we may need part-time instructors in the clinical or skills lab for:

  • Fundamentals of Nursing
  • Medical-Surgical Nursing
  • Maternity Nursing
  • Mental Health Nursing
  • Agency Preceptor Coordination
  • Remedial assistance such as tutoring of nursing students

The adjunct instructor will serve under the supervision of specific full-time nursing faculty and the Dean of the Elizabeth Akers Elliott School of Nursing while accepting the following responsibilities:   

  1. Provide instruction for the assigned course, including clinical supervision, patient assignments, clinical paperwork, pre-post conference, assisting with return skill demonstration, and fostering clinical decision-making.
  2. Provide clinical evaluation as required and meet one-on-one with students to strengthen clinical decision-making.
  3. Maintain close communication with the course leader or supervising faculty.
  4. Maintain health records, an unencumbered KY RN license, and other documentation as required by the Elliott School of Nursing or health agencies.
  5. Responsibilities for all other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Requirements:

  1. Must have a minimum of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree and clinical experience within the last two years.
  2. Must have excellent organizational, communication, teaching and clinical decision-making skills.
  3. Prior clinical instruction or teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  4. Prior experience with electronic health documentation and simulation is strongly preferred.

Courses are offered during the day. Clinical instruction is offered during the day and occasionally in the evening. Travel is required and is the responsibility of the instructor. The central focus for the Graduate Assistant is to perform clerical services to the entire academic community in the Registrar’s Office and serve as an Administrative Assistant for the University Registrar and Associate Registrar by performing the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  1. Upholds the integrity of the Registrar’s Office and all parts of the University of Pikeville. Will not allow anyone else to use his/her username/password or otherwise obtain access to all types of academic records. He/she agrees to protect his/her username/password against inadvertent disclosure and/or share his/her name/password with other individuals or entities. He/she agrees to comply with all federal, state and local requirements pertaining to the security, confidentiality and privacy of information maintained by the University of Pikeville, including the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  2. Functions as a receptionist: Duties include, but are not limited to answering telephone, in-person and e-mail inquiries and requests; ascertains the nature of business of each, and then disperse them to appropriate person or persons. Also, schedules appointments for registrars using Outlook Calendar; and maintains good customer service.
  3. Handles incoming and outgoing mail for the Registrar’s Office.
  4. Performs scanning using Perceptive Content, verifying scanned documents, linking, and purging/shredding of academic permanent files/records, as well as filing.
  5. Organizing, alphabetizing, and filing documents.
  6. Assist with processing transcript requests.
  7. Prepares deferments; letters of good standing; enrollment verification letters/forms, insurance forms, mail merges, envelopes, reports, etc.
  8. Performs data-entry into Colleague of information from various forms (i.e. Emergency Contact, FERPA, etc.).
  9. Performs data-entry, updates and tracks first-year studies (FS 102) requirements.
  10. Assists with registration of students.
  11. Assists with data-entry of class schedules including drop/add/withdraw.
  12. Assists with prerequisite checking.
  13. Assists with data-entry of transfer credit.
  14. Assists with graduation and commencement processes and preparation including, but not limited to maintaining list of graduates, mailing diplomas, cap & gown orders, etc.
  15. Assist with record keeping of NAIA and athletic eligibility rosters.
  16. Proofreading documents.
  17. Assists with curriculum, academic calendar, and catalog.
  18. Performs additional duties as required by the University Registrar; including, but not limited to, typing, data research, or copying and assembling materials.
  19. Utilizes word processing, the Internet, electronic mail, spreadsheets, databases and other computer and technologically enhanced learning tools to carry out responsibilities in an efficient and thorough manner.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.

Relationships:
Position requires continuous contact with co-workers, supervisor, student workers, faculty, and staff in order to assign jobs, obtain instructions, make decisions, and answer any questions that may arise. Contact with students and parents is necessary in order to talk about schedules, transcripts, enrollment information, class instructors, and any other inquiries that may arise. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and/or person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree.

  • Some experience using basic clerical skills.
  • Must have ability to multi-task.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication, organizational, typing, and critical thinking skills.

**Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan. However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
