Graduate Assistant - Men's Basketball new

Description:

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia is actively seeking a Graduate Assistant Coach for our Men’s Basketball program. The Graduate Assistant Coach will assist the Head Men’s Basketball Coach with the overall operations of the Men’s basketball program, in accordance with the University of Pikeville, Mid-South Conference, and NAIA regulations. The Graduate Assistant Coach must have a commitment to the philosophy of providing a competitive NAIA Division I basketball program that emphasizes integrity and the educational welfare of its student-athletes.

Responsibilities:

  1. Day to day operation, general office duties
  2. Plan/design/coordinate/assist with programs and services related to tutoring/supplemental instruction/enrichment/grouping
  3. Mentoring student-athletes, academic advisement of student-athletes
  4. Monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes
  5. Supervising and organizing study hall
  6. Work in coordination with student success/registrar/faculty athletics representative
  7. Develop an understanding of NAIA rules and regulations related to eligibility
  8. Unofficial eligibility evaluations of student-athletes
  9. Conducting recruiting visits
  10. Oversee managers/work study students
  11. Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes
  12. Assist in fund raising, travel-accommodations and arranging team meals
  13. Insure health and safety
  14. Emphasize integrity and educational welfare of student-athletes
  15. Assist and run summer camps and community service
  16. Comply with all UPIKE, MSC and NAIA rules and regulations

 Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of Bachelor’s degree and be accepted into graduate program at UPIKE
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate with all members of the College community
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. computer, printer, fax machine, copier
  • Must be familiar in Microsoft Office, particularly with Word and Excel
  • Must be able to perform simple calculations
  • Must be familiar with creating online travel arrangements

* Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall and spring semesters.

Description:

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia is actively seeking candidates for an Assistant Athletic Trainer - Intern in the Athletics Department.  The successful candidate is expected to perform the athletic training duties required for multiple sports teams of the University of Pikeville.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide coverage for athletic practice sessions and game events, both home and away.
  2. Supervise work-study and scholarship students helping in the athletic training department.
  3. Maintain athletic training rooms as needed in order to provide the best athletic training experience possible for student athletes.
  4. Perform administrative duties as needed.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Athletic Training.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Training Association - Board of Certification.
  • Must be familiar with operating modalities and sports-related equipment, e.g. e-stim/ultrasound machine, ice machine, whirlpool, water boys.
  • Must be self-sufficient.
  • Must have excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to perform simple calculations.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web, as well as creating online travel arrangements.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, student workers, athletes, parents, school administrators, other coaches, physical therapists, doctors, and doctor office staff in order to gather and share information about student-athletes’ injuries in order to provide high quality care.   • Provide clerical support to the other staff in Academic Affairs as assigned by the ADAA including Exam preparation, data analysis, and Faculty Development activities.
  • Work cooperatively with the Administrative Assistants for Basic and Clinical Sciences to support the activities of Academic Affairs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Previous Administrative Assistant experience preferred.
  • Must have excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, anticipatory problem solving and attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work to complete assignments accurately and within reasonable timeframes.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership, vision, and direction to the IT department.

  3. Collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff to assess and meet campus IT needs.
  4. Develop and administer the department budget.
  5. Supervise the development of an effective IT help desk to provide timely and efficient assistance to students and college employees on hardware and software issues.
  6. Identify emerging technologies and supervise the development and implementation of new applications.
  7. Supervise the IT processes to protect the integrity and operation of the campus network.
  8. Develop, review, and certify all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Oversees the Biomedical Sciences Curriculum in KYCOM Years 1 and 2.
  2. Biomedical faculty and staff evaluation and management.
  3. Participates in curriculum development and evaluation (KYCOM & KYCO).
  4. Teaches in the biomedical science curriculum.
  5. Prepares and recommends a departmental budget.
  6. Participates in Strategic planning for the University, KYCOM and KYCO.
  7. Coordinates with Course Directors to select clinical texts and equipment.
  8. Assists in the development of biomedical course schedules.
  9. Participates in integration of KYCOM biomedical science faculty teaching in other UPIKE health professions programs.
  10. Oversees the biomedical science research program and budget.
  11. Assists in the preparation of materials and documentation required for accreditation.
  12. Provides counseling and guidance to students.
  13. Serves on assigned KYCOM, KYCO, and UPIKE committees.
  14. Attends Commencement, White Coat Ceremony, new student orientation, and University of Pikeville Opening Convocation.
  15. Assists in the selection of students to attend KYCOM.

Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:

  • Earned Doctorate degree.

The Area Coordinator is a twelve-month, live-in position with supervisory responsibilities for multiple residence halls (ranging from 200-400 residents) and a staff of paraprofessionals (Resident Assistants). Responsibilities include overall management of residential community that facilitates a vibrant student experience grounded in intentional student development practice. Reports to Director of Residence Life.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide live-in residence hall management and deliver an array of engaging, educational programs for residential community; work out of office in residence hall while staying engaged with central office.
  2. Participate in 24-hour on-call duty rotation including night, weekend and holidays utilizing a university cell phone, responding to calls for assistance and emergency situations.
  3. Participate in the hiring, training, and supervision of Resident Assistant (RA) staff; provide direct supervision for RA staff.

  3. Make recommendations to the Provost regarding personnel appointments and re-appointments, promotions, and dismissal if necessary.

The successful applicant will be a have a doctorate in chemistry and is prepared to teach a variety of courses that are part of the University’s course offerings in Chemistry.  Teaching responsibilities may include general chemistry, general chemistry lab, physical chemistry, and other upper-level classes in the applicant’s field of interest. While most classes are offered face-to-face, the University does offer classes through other modalities including hybrid and fully online. Faculty may have part of their teaching load assigned to these other modalities. This position also requires advising students, providing service to the University community, assisting with departmental activities, and continuing scholarly growth and development.  A doctorate in chemistry is required.  Applicants with ABD status and within one year of completion will also be considered.  Undergraduate teaching experience is desired.

  4. Assists in the preparation of materials and documentation required for continued accreditation of the school by the American Osteopathic Association -COCA and other accrediting agencies.
  5. Actively serves on appointed KYCOM Faculty and UPIKE Committees.
  6. Provides clinical services as directed by the Department Chairs and Dean, which would be associated with family medicine and/or osteopathic manipulative medicine.
  7. Provides counseling, advising and guidance to students.

Education/Experience:

  • Must have earned a D.O. degree from an American Osteopathic Association COCA-accredited college/school of osteopathic medicine.
  • Must be eligible for and maintain an unrestricted Kentucky medical/osteopathic license and obtain that license within 180 days of initial employment.
  • Must be board certified by AOBFP and/or AOBNMM (or equivalent).
  • Current and unrestricted DEA certificate.
  • Previous research and academic/clinical experience are desirable.

Each semester, we may need part-time instructors in the clinical or skills lab for:

  • Fundamentals of Nursing
  • Medical-Surgical Nursing
  • Maternity Nursing
  • Mental Health Nursing
  • Agency Preceptor Coordination
  • Remedial assistance such as tutoring of nursing students

The adjunct instructor will serve under the supervision of specific full-time nursing faculty and the Dean of the Elizabeth Akers Elliott School of Nursing while accepting the following responsibilities:   

  1. Provide instruction for the assigned course, including clinical supervision, patient assignments, clinical paperwork, pre-post conference, assisting with return skill demonstration, and fostering clinical decision-making.
  2. Provide clinical evaluation as required and meet one-on-one with students to strengthen clinical decision-making.
  3. Maintain close communication with the course leader or supervising faculty.
  4. Maintain health records, an unencumbered KY RN license, and other documentation as required by the Elliott School of Nursing or health agencies.
  5. Responsibilities for all other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Requirements:

  1. Must have a minimum of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree and clinical experience within the last two years.
  2. Must have excellent organizational, communication, teaching and clinical decision-making skills.
  3. Prior clinical instruction or teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  4. Prior experience with electronic health documentation and simulation is strongly preferred.

Courses are offered during the day. Clinical instruction is offered during the day and occasionally in the evening. Travel is required and is the responsibility of the instructor. Positions are available in the Fall and Spring semesters on an as-needed basis. Review of applications will begin immediately.

University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia is actively seeking candidates for a Graduate Assistant Coach for our men's soccer program. Candidates must have a commitment to upholding the academic and athletic mission of the College.

The central focus for this position is to coordinate and assist with all aspects of the team by performing the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily coaching and planning practices.
  • Implement practice plans/activities as well as track player development.
  • Assist with scouting and game preparation and the recruitment of qualified student-athletes to the program.
  • Make team travel arrangements including but not limited to reservations for buses, vans, drivers and hotel accommodations.
  • Distribution and tracking of soccer gear.
  • Run team study hall and maintain academic progress reports.
  • Make game day preparations.
  • Travel arrangements and campus tours for recruits.
  • Assist in recruiting and retention.
  • General office duties including pickup and drop off of mail.

Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of Bachelor’s degree and be accepted into graduate program at UPIKE.
  • 2-4 months experience with recruiting preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience with player skill development, game planning, and practice preparation preferred.
  • Must be able to abide by the standards set by the Head Coach to maintain a high degree of trust and quality assurance.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate with all members of the College community.
  • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g. computer, printer, fax machine, copier.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly with Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to perform simple calculations.
  • Must be familiar with creating online travel arrangements. 

*The Graduate Assistant will receive free room and board and tuition waiver to the graduate program.
