Development Advisor

Description:

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is actively seeking candidates for a full-time staff position in the Upward Bound program. The Development Advisor is dependent on continued federal grant funding.

The Development Advisor is expected to perform all duties required by the University of Pikeville’s Upward Bound program by carrying out the following responsibilities:

  1. Review and collect all data necessary to qualify participants for acceptance into the program.
  2. Document all required steps in the approval selection process as well as the academic, personal, and career guidance components of the program.
  3. Responsible for scheduling and conducting visits to target schools while recruiting qualifying participants.
  4. Deliver and document all information regarding support services.
  5. Maintain the program’s professional relationships with the local high schools.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, education, or related field along with training or experience in personal, academic, and career counseling.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with a TRIO program or similar experience working with youth from disadvantaged backgrounds similar to those experienced by the target area youth.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to identify the barriers and disadvantages faced by area youth and the ability to relate effectively to campus personnel, and local secondary school personnel and students.
  • Proficiency in clerical skills, e.g. use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have ability to perform simple calculations.
  • Must have excellent people and communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge of Web and creating online travel arrangements for large groups of people.
  • Must be familiar with multiple forms of office equipment, e.g. computer, printer, copier, fax machine.

Description:

The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky is currently seeking a Counselor/Psychologist to provide assessment, treatment, consultation and referral services regarding psychological, emotional and behavioral concerns of students, faculty and staff. In addition, the Counselor serves as an advocate for diversity and cross-cultural understanding to create a welcoming campus and serves as a mental health resource for the campus community.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide individual assessment, time-limited counseling, and group counseling to students seeking assistance with personal, psychological, or interpersonal problems. Provide support for students whose personal, psychological, or interpersonal concerns are interfering with their functioning as students and as members of the UPIKE community.
  2. Assist in assessing psychological withdrawals and leaves of absences.
  3. Provide crisis counseling and counseling services for students with acute psychological problems.
  4. Present psycho-educational programs to members of the UPIKE community to promote personal, interpersonal, and psychological health.
  5. Provide training and consultation on special programs or to particular student groups; develop training programs to promote staff development skills; participate in the training of residence hall and other appropriate staff.
  6. Provide consultation to faculty, staff, administrators, and other concerned individuals regarding issues of student mental health; support faculty and staff development programs related to the creation of a psychologically healthy community; support academic programs which contribute to the healthy development of students.
  7. Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful University community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the University. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
  8. Assist in research relevant to assessing student needs and describing student behavior and culture; assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of counseling and other services and activities.
  9. Provide guidance, direction and clinical supervision to graduate clinical interns, as needed.
  10. Periodically, this position may be asked to lead or contribute to either ad hoc or ongoing division/campus projects outside the scope of their day-to-day activities (e.g., serving on a committee or Staff Council, advising a student group or participating in focus groups). May include occasional evening/weekend activities.
  11. Abide by professional ethical guidelines and comply with federal and state law as it relates to the professional practice of psychology, social work or mental health counseling.

 Education/Sill Requirements:

  • Doctorate in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology (preferably APA-accredited) with internship in Professional Psychology (preferably APA-accredited), or Master's Degree (MSW, MA, MS, Med) in Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or other related field is preferred
  • Licensure as a mental health provider in Kentucky (LCSW, MFT, or LPCC). License must be obtained before beginning employment.
  • Two to five years of previous experience in university counseling center or with young adults in a clinical setting is strongly preferred.
  • Keen sensitivity to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, socio-economic status
  • Skilled with techniques for counseling students with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated history of positive working relationships and collaborative style, strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Experience providing service through outreach activities, program development, and committee involvement.
  • Clinical skills and proven managerial and supervisory skills with continuing interest in professional development around current practices and trends
  • Strong generalist with experience with common presenting concerns of college students, and experience and interest in providing group therapy
  • Demonstrated interest, expertise, and commitment to working with students from underrepresented groups through culturally-competent therapy and programming are required.

The University of Pikeville is currently seeking a Director of Facilities to be responsible for the operation, budgeting, and overall maintenance of the facilities of the University of Pikeville campus including buildings and associated electrical and mechanical systems; utility systems to include heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electricity; grounds and road maintenance. Responsibilities further include the University fleet and motor pool, and the utilization and maintenance of motorized equipment. Incumbent must possess the skills necessary to effectively communicate with campus personnel, campus administrators, local, state and federal agencies and the general public. The incumbent must also possess the necessary technical skill to direct and oversee construction, renovation, repair projects, and the repair and replacement of electrical and mechanical parts and equipment in order to ensure an environmentally safe and healthy campus. Provides emphasis of cooperation and liaison with the University as a service organization.

Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare yearly budget for fund requirements and continually monitor expenditures to assure that funds allocated are effectively utilized and expenditures limited to the allocation.
  2. Prepare yearly personnel staffing requirements and assure that all persons employed are properly assigned to work endeavors and that they are productive according to developed standards.
  3. Continually monitor all operational activities of the Facilities Management Department to assure that mission requirements are effectively fulfilled. Prepare quarterly and yearly reports concerning the activities of the Facilities Management Department.
  4. Establish policies, rules, and regulations. Render decisions on operational and personnel matters.
  5. Utilizes knowledge of local, state, and federal safety and building codes.
  6. Advises on handicapped access requirements and needed modifications.
  7. Consult with architects, engineers, and university departments in the planning and development of major new construction and/or the refurbishment of existing facilities. Monitor major new construction work and other contracted projects to assure that facilities are constructed in accordance with specifications.
  8. Direct supervision of staff and other key personnel involved in operational and administrative responsibilities.
  9. Receive and carry out special requirements as may be directed by the Vice President for Finance and Business Affairs.
  10. Delegate to and holds subordinates responsible for satisfactory performance of assignments. Prepare and maintain operational plans and measure and report performance against the plans.
  11. Responsible for the supervision of professional technical and clerical staff within the Facilities Management Department and outside agencies associated with the facility.

  • A Baccalaureate degree is required.

Description:

The University of Pikeville expects an innovative and experienced graduate and health professions professional who will ensure exemplary student services to approximately 900 graduate and health professional students. He/she will be a relationship-builder and will focus on promoting retention, timely completion, and overall student satisfaction. The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs reports to the Dean of Student Affairs and is a position that has wide-ranging responsibilities requiring knowledge of student development, student services, policy and compliance, and outcomes assessment, with the objective of supporting the institution and graduate/health professional students through development and implementation of higher education best practices.

The position requires extensive interaction with the Dean of the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) and Dean of the Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO) personnel and with the University's broader student affairs team, including the Dean of Student Affairs.

Key Functions:

  1. Serve as the primary contact and advocate for graduate/health professional students to ensure that they receive the support required to succeed academically.
  2. Assist in coordinating and connecting students to university-wide services, including tutoring, academic advising, health services, registration, financial aid, co-curricular activities, and career planning.
  3. Use qualitative and quantitative data to track retention on a program-by-program basis.
  4. Work with faculty and staff to design and implement strategies to support students academic needs as they complete their graduate/health professional studies.
  5. Manage graduate co-curricular programming, including orientations for incoming students throughout the year, lunches with the President, admitted student days, and student engagement events.
  6. Work with students to create a community by supporting student organizations such as the graduate and professional schools’ student government organizations, and by encouraging students to participate in co-curricular activities including international and domestic service trips.
  7. Serve as a member of the Care Team and work closely with the Dean of Student Affairs to provide direction and intervention for graduate and health professions students in crisis and non-crisis situations (e.g., intervening with students in mental health crises; assisting with the administration of the student code of conduct; working with UPIKE staff and faculty to resolve student concerns; mediating and resolving conflict; conducting student referrals: etc.).
  8. Develop and manage a comprehensive graduate student outreach and communication strategy to include a social media presence, email newsletter, web content, and periodic email reminders related to registration, graduation, and other events.
  9. Oversee updates to website and electronic and print materials for graduate and health professions students.
  10. Manage multiple ongoing processes, including students’ changes of status, leaves of absence, technology distribution, and housing placements.
  11. Serve as a liaison with outside professional organizations.
  12. Collaborate with or serve on various professional schools’ committees.
  13. Work with the University of Pikeville Title IX Coordinator, provide graduate and health professions students with information on sexual misconduct policies and resources.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

Assist graduate, health professional and undergraduate student affairs offices with events during busy seasons.

Represent the graduate and health professional programs at public events, university-wide student services meetings, and on both temporary and standing committees.

Description:

The University of Pikeville is seeking applications for the full time position of Student Success Advisor. The Student Success Advisor is expected to promote academic, personal, and social/emotional success. The Student Success Advisor is also tasked with providing appropriate academic and intermediary support to incoming freshmen and transfer students with regards to all aspects of the student’s life. Advisors will provide comprehensive testing for first-time students, track student outcomes, administer the freshman and transfer advising process, provide advising and retention training to faculty and staff, as well as provide services and support for at-risk and underserved populations.

  1. Provide holistic, proactive academic advising for all first time students, focusing on incoming freshmen and new transfer students.
  2. Ensure awareness of student services available on campus and general University policies and procedures.
  3. Focus on implementing specific strategies to assist students with academic deficiencies and those with personal and/or family issues that affect their ability to persist.
  4. Assist the Director with coordination of student services functions and work with faculty and staff to increase retention.
  5. Coordinate student evaluations during the summer orientation sessions (GROWL). If needs are identified, work with faculty to find possible learning solutions or technology to assist students as they overcome these obstacles.
  6. Administer the College Student Inventory to incoming freshmen.
  7. Coordinates with the Disability Services Coordinator to arrange necessary accommodations for individual students.
  8. Make referrals to appropriate departments, including Student Services, Academic Affairs, Registrar, Business Office, Financial Aid, ACE, Disability Services, and monitor progress and resolutions.
  9. Maintain confidential records regarding interactions with students and prepare weekly and monthly reports to the Director regarding advising, evaluation and assessment of students.
  10. Assist with What’s Up Wednesdays and other student retention initiatives.
  11. Monitor student attendance and academic progress for students on academic probation.
  12. Plan and teach First Year Studies courses as needed.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Must be student oriented and have a compassionate nature with the ability to be empathetic to student needs.
  • Three years of experience in a student services/advising role is preferred.
  • Experience with helping at-risk students in a university environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with student success factors in higher education.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to creatively solve student issues in a timely manner.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record with the ability to drive a 12 passenger van as permitted by the university.

This position is charged with fostering and securing planned, private financial gifts for the University. The primary responsibility is to meet or exceed annual and multi-year goals by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, securing, and stewarding prospects and donors for planned gifts.

This position is actively engaged in establishing long-term partnerships and strengthening existing relationships with alumni and supports of the University that will result in financial commitments for the benefit of the University.  

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working within a comprehensive institutional advancement – plan and execute a development plan, which includes identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of planned gifts, while working independently and/or collaboratively with volunteers.
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals specified for amount raised, contacts, number of successful solicitations, etc.
  • Manage a major gift prospect base of between 125 to 150 qualified major gift prospects.
  • Conduct 150+ face-to-face visits per year.
  • Execute a minimum of 30 contacts per month with at least half comprising personal, direct contact. The Advancement Director must be able to travel 35% of the time, including overnight and occasional weekends.
  • Document contacts and adhere to policies and procedures for accepting, recording and acknowledging gifts.
  • Work closely with Alumni, Advancement and Public Affairs offices to maximize the fundraising potential of the university through participation in events or meetings.
  • Perform stewardship of endowment scholarships for designated college and/or program.

Essential Functions:

  • Results-oriented with professional characteristics that include leadership, commitment to confidentiality, flexibility, team-orientation, attention to detail and sensitivity to the stewardship of long-term relationships.

  • The Director of Planned and Major Giving holds primary responsibility for gifts of estates, trusts, and various other financial venues that reflect financial planning and deferred giving opportunities. The adjunct instructor will serve under the supervision of specific full-time nursing faculty and the Dean of the Elizabeth Akers Elliott School of Nursing while accepting the following responsibilities:   

  1. Provide instruction for the assigned course, including clinical supervision, patient assignments, clinical paperwork, pre-post conference, assisting with return skill demonstration, and fostering clinical decision-making.
  2. Provide clinical evaluation as required and meet one-on-one with students to strengthen clinical decision-making.
  3. Maintain close communication with the course leader or supervising faculty.
  4. Maintain health records, an unencumbered KY RN license, and other documentation as required by the Elliott School of Nursing or health agencies.
  5. Responsibilities for all other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Requirements:

  1. Must have a minimum of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree and clinical experience within the last two years.
  2. Must have excellent organizational, communication, teaching and clinical decision-making skills.
  3. Prior clinical instruction or teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  4. Prior experience with electronic health documentation and simulation is strongly preferred.

Courses are offered during the day. Clinical instruction is offered during the day and occasionally in the evening. Travel is required and is the responsibility of the instructor.   5. Take the cash deposits to the bank on a daily basis if needed.
  6. Will enter journal entries that are approved by a staff accountant or the controller.

  8. Data entry and analysis.
  9. Attends and participates in meetings as required.
