Athletic Academic Coordinator - Center for Academic Excellence new

Description:

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), is actively seeking candidates for an Athletic Academic Coordinator with the Center for Academic Excellence. The primary function for this position is to assist the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) and Division of Student Success in providing proactive academic support for student athletes at the University of Pikeville (UPIKE). The Athletic Academic Coordinator will utilize appropriate learning strategies and academic coaching in support of student athletes, with a specific focus on those identified as at-risk, in their endeavors to improve and enhance their study skills in a safe and encouraging environment. The Coordinator will work with assigned students on an individual and/or small group basis to develop learning strategies, study skills, and time management skills, as well as to monitor progress toward completion of academic coursework to maintain athletic eligibility and promote equitable student success.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Monitor progress and provide academic support to student athletes in completing academic coursework throughout the semester. The Coordinator will document progress and submit weekly reports to the Director of the Center for Academic Excellence and coach(es).
  2. Utilize the CAE’s My Academic Plan (MAP) initiative to meet the needs of at-risk students through weekly meetings, study groups, tutors, after-session reports, and academic session hours.
  3. Host learning and skills-based workshops targeted toward the specific needs and challenges of student athletes as approved by the division of Student Success.
  4. Provide holistic and proactive academic coaching for student athletes.
  5. Assist the CAE Director and Assistant Dean of Student Success with assessments involving academic support services provided to student athletes at UPIKE.
  6. Focus on implementing specific strategies to assist students with academic deficiencies and those with personal and/or family issues that affect their ability to persist.
  7. Under the supervision of the CAE Director, maintain a positive working relationship with the Athletic Director and athletic coaches, as well as with faculty, staff, and student staff.
  8. Monitor student attendance and academic progress through the university’s early alert system for assigned students and share information with CAE Director and coaches weekly.
  9. Make referrals to appropriate departments including Student Success, Student Affairs, Registrar, Business Office, Financial Aid, ACE, Disability Resource Center, etc. and monitor progress and resolutions when appropriate.
  10. Maintain confidential records regarding interactions with students in accordance with FERPA Regulations.
  11. Engage in professional development opportunities as provided, specifically involving NAIA rules and regulations, academic coaching, and academic support services.
  12. Represent the Center for Academic Excellence and division of Student Success on committees and taskforces as needed.
  13. Assist with any new Center for Academic Excellence initiatives and collaborations as determined by the Director.
  14. Other duties as assigned by the CAE Director or Assistant Dean of Student Success.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, students, faculty, and staff in order to advise and promote student success and retention. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, fax, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required and 1-3 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends as needed.
  • Some knowledge of athletic eligibility rules and regulations and the ability to comprehend the collegiate student athlete experience is preferred.
  • Must be student oriented and have a compassionate nature with the ability to be empathetic to student needs.
  • Experience with helping at-risk students in a university environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with student success factors in higher education is preferred.

This position is responsible for the operation of lawn maintenance equipment, such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and blowers, and understand how to water, fertilize, and prune decorative shrubs and plants. We pride ourselves in keeping our campus safe and looking beautiful, so our team works in various types of weather conditions and performs maintenance duties to ensure employee safety during inclement weather by removing debris, snow, and ice from communal walkways and spaces.

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain the existing lawns by keeping them presentable to campus and community.
  2. Pull weeds from flowerbeds and sidewalks.
  3. Prune trees, shrubs, and hedges.
  4. Plant new flowers, bushes, plants, and decorative shrubs.
  5. Rake fallen leaves and remove debris.
  6. Keep pedestrian areas removed of snow and ice.
  7. Properly store and handle all equipment, tools, sprinklers, fertilizer, etc.
  8. Oversee maintenance repairs to equipment, landscape structures, and hardscape walkways.
  9. Additional assistance moving furniture, setting up for events, or processing recyclables may be required.
  10. Other duties assigned.

Relationships:

This position requires continuous communication with co-workers, the supervisor, students, employees, student workers, various campus departments, contractors, and the public in order to direct and assist in the maintenance of the campus of the University of Pikeville.  Education/Skill Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience in landscaping or ground keeping is preferred.

The University of Pikeville is looking for an Upward Bound II Director. This position will have a full-time commitment to the Upward Bound project (645.43b1) serving Floyd, Martin and Jenkins Independent school systems.

Responsibilities:

  1. Will serve as the immediate supervisor for the Upward Bound project.
  2. Will be responsible for ensuring that activities and services are provided in accordance with institutional, state, and federal policies.
  3. Initiate the process for reporting to the grantee and conduct all project performance reporting to the Department of Education.
  4. Create and designate work plans and conduct periodic evaluations.
  5. Approve and monitor project documentation process and all project expenditures.
  6. Activate the plan of operation to provide an ongoing dialogue between the project, campus, target schools, Boards of Education, parents, and community.
  7. Monitor project mechanisms designed to accumulate data and to meet 645.43 c - documentation of eligibility and selection process.
  8. Monitor activities necessary to maintain students’ records, performance records, and fiscal records in accordance with 645.5 and EDGAR 34 CFR Part 74.
  9. Redirect priorities and staff efforts as necessary.
  10. Implement the plan of management hiring processes, as well as recommend candidates for employment; supervise orientation; and provide training for staff.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  1. Master’s degree in education or counseling preferred
  2. Must have a minimum one-year experience working with a TRIO program or similar experience working with youth from disadvantaged backgrounds similar to those experienced by the target population
  3. Familiarity with program regulations, legislation, and organizational structure is preferred
  4. Must demonstrate experience in designing, managing, or implementing similar projects and have experience in personal, academic, or career counseling/advising
  5. Must have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to the target population to be served (i.e., first generation, low income)
  6. Priority will be given to applicants with knowledge concerning state and federal educational curriculum standards and assessments.

Standardized Patient/Human Model Program Coordinator

Under the supervision of the Chair of the Department of Primary Care, the Standardized Patient/Human Model Program Coordinator is directly responsible for coordination of the Standardized Patients/Human Models (SP/HM) who are trained to simulate patients’ history, physical, and psychological conditions for teaching and assessment repeatedly and accurately.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  1. Direct and staff the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) program including student-scheduling, communication with SP/HM, faculty and staff, and IT department to ensure that all necessary supplies/resources are present, functioning and monitor recruitment/need for additional faculty raters and staff in collaboration with the Director of Simulation and KYCOM Family Medicine Department Chair.
  2. Continuously recruit, provide initial SP/HM training and monitor SP/HM performance with retraining as needed to ensure that patient portrayals and/or ratings are standardized and meet criteria.
  3. Supervise and evaluate all SP/HM personnel.
  4. Maintain an up to date SP/HM database, and do all SP/HM marketing, recruitment and communication.
  5. Monitor budget statements.
  6. Provide administrative support to the Family Medicine Department faculty as directed by immediate supervisor. 
  7. Cross-train with and support the Clinical Sciences Administrative Assistant as directed by the Director of Simulation or the Family Medicine Department Chair.
  8. Pickup and distribution of mail on a collaborative schedule with other KYCOM staff members. 
  9. Be able to support department with IT issues.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Simulation or the Family Medicine Department Chair. 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible administrative support experience in a medical related field and/or teaching institution.

The Academic Affairs Support Specialist also performs clerical work supporting the development and administration of pre-clinical assessments. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Track student academic data and generate regular reports to support KYCOM-PASS initiatives.
  2. Apply defined criteria to enroll students in KYCOM-PASS, communicate program requirements, and monitor adherence and progress.
  3. Communicate regularly with the KYCOM Academic Progress Committee, the Director of Educational Support, faculty advisors, course directors, and the Academic Progress Director to track student completion of KYCOM-PASS requirements.
  4. Generate academic snapshots and KYCOM-PASS reports in support of KYCOM Academic Progress Committee meetings.
  5. Assist the Academic Progress Director by compiling board readiness benchmark data and monitoring student eligibility for the COMLEX-USA examinations.
  6. Assist the Assessment and Evaluation Coordinator in creating and administering weekly integrated assessments in support of the KYCOM curriculum transformation, as well as other assessments in the biomedical and clinical sciences.
  7. Provide clerical support to the other staff in Academic Affairs as assigned by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
  8. Work cooperatively with the Administrative Assistants for Biomedical and Clinical Sciences to support the activities of Academic Affairs.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • Previous academic administrative experience is preferred.

The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky seeks a dynamic and creative Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining strength and conditioning programs for  sports assigned by Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will devise training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, maintains athlete records, and supervises work study and internship students. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach meets regularly with sport coaches to determine what the athletes need to focus on. If working with an injured athlete engaged in rehabilitation, the Strength and Conditioning Coach will consult with the sports medicine or athletic training staff. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, implementation and scheduling of strength and conditioning programs in‐season, off‐ season, and preseason for this position’s assigned sports including strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning, and more.
  • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine and athletic training staff to help reduce the risk of injury and to help develop return to play plans if injuries occur.
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among assigned sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff.
  • Maintain weight room equipment to ensure clean and safe workspace for student athletes.
  • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the sport coaches.
  • Conduct an annual needs analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coaches and the team’s athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.
  • Work with other areas of campus such as Health and Human Performance Program to provide internship and work study opportunities for our students.
  • Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the school’s expectations.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Kinesiology or related field. Master’s or working towards Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum experience of 2 years in field (including graduate assistantship).
  • Must possess Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa).
  • Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.

The University of Pikeville seeks an experienced, visionary leader to serve as its Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and Curriculum (ADCEC) in the Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO). The (ADCEC) is responsible for developing and refining clinical educational experiences for students at the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO). The ADCEC insures that KYCO clinics and all remote clinical sites are providing the appropriate clinical educational experiences required of the students of KYCO. The ADCEC advises the Dean on all improvements and enhancements of the clinical education at KYCO. The ADCEC ensures that clinical rubrics are maintained, updated, scheduled, and completed appropriately for all clinical experiences. The ADCEC shall look for innovative ways to add to the student’s clinical experiences through adjustments to the curriculum or other opportunities. The ADCEC will remain focused on ensuring that all KYCO clinics operate within the guidelines of all accrediting and funding agencies (University, Federal, State and Local). The ADCEC supervises the Director of Externships and is the responsible party for interactions between the College and all external clinical training sites.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Supervise the Director of Externship Program.
  2. Supervise the Director of Residencies and oversees the accreditation of all KYCO-affiliated residencies.
  3. Consult with the Associate Dean for Clinics and Expanded Therapeutics in the development of any new clinical programs.
  4. Development of the Clinical Educational Curriculum in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Associate Dean for Clinics & Expanded Therapeutics, and Director of Externship Programs.
  5. Keep the Administrative Team informed of legal issues, educational trends, and curriculum development throughout the year Faculty Support.
  6. Development of clinical education materials for all clinical faculty.
  7. Working knowledge of associated health professions, Ophthalmology, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology.
  8. Develop clinical curriculum that maximizes the student experience while ensuring clinical faculty workload in maintained.
  9. Initiate concepts of quality assurance with the committees of quality assurance at the training sites.
  10. Keep current with emerging trends in clinical education and curriculum.
  11. Arrange and conduct regular meetings of clinical educators to ensure the best student experience.
  12. Meet regularly with the Dean to present clinical faculty’s ideas and concerns.
  13. Communicate executive, educational and administrative goals, objectives, policies and procedures, and concerns to clinical faculty Student Support.
  14. Educate students on the importance of diverse clinical experiences. 
  15. Assist students with maintenance of the clinical curriculum requirements during times of absence, public health crises, or other unanticipated issues that arise.
  16. Develop students both personally and professionally throughout their entire optometric education clinical experience Clinical Supervision.
  17. Schedule clinic rotations for students, coordinate with Director of Externship Program all make-up work, and leaves in accordance with KYCO and UPIKE policies.
  18. Approve curricular adjustments for students throughout their training.
  19. Arrange and conduct meetings with students at key times throughout their clinical education at KYCO.
  20. Review and revise clinical expectation for clinical faculty and students on an annual basis.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  1. Teach private instrumental lessons (woodwind, brass, guitar, and/or percussion; percussion preferred).
  2. Assist with all aspects of Marching Band rehearsals and administration.
  3. Assist with Concert Band; oversee percussion section.
  4. Assist with Jazz Band; oversee select sectionals.
  5. Assist with Pep Band; shared directing responsibilities.

Each semester, we may need part-time instructors in the undergraduate and or graduate social work programs to teach generalist social work courses and concentration courses focused on mental health and addictions. The adjunct instructor will serve under the supervision of specific full-time social work faculty and the Chair of the School of Social Work, while accepting the following responsibilities:  

Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching the assigned social work course(s), this includes preparing lecture notes, presentation prep, designing assignments, assessment of student competence, and syllabus prep.  May also include coordination of co-curricular activities.

The Office of First-Year Experience supports the transition of approximately 425 new students during a series of GROWL sessions throughout the summer and UPIKE FIRST Week that runs from August 21-25, 2024, as well as during key points throughout their first year. This role will work collaboratively with the Director of Family and New Student Connections and the Coordinator of Student Experiences, as well as university staff, faculty, and undergraduate student leaders to plan, develop, and implement orientation and transition programs for first-year students, transfer students, and their families. The GA for First-Year Experience will gain knowledge of university communication to incoming families and students, contribute to student leadership development and training, and understand programmatic logistics.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Assist in the overall planning and implementation of program initiatives including logistics, scheduling, session preparations, serving as a campus resource, etc. for events including, but not limited to GROWL, UPIKE FIRST Week, and family engagement events.

Relationships:

  • Position requires daily contact with coaches, student athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff in order to communicate information about the athletics program at the University of Pikeville. In addition, the position requires collaboration with the Family Connections Office on-campus to communicate and engage current families or prospective families. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and enrolled full-time in a master's degree program at UPIKE and eligible for participation in the Graduate Assistant program (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better preferred). 
  • Must be/remain in good standing with the University academically and judicially. 
  • Previous collegiate playing experience. 

**Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan. However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
