Assistant/Associate/Professor Department of Primary Care

The University of Pikeville seeks an innovative, energetic and collaborative candidate to assume the position of Assistant/Associate/Professor of Primary Care. This full-time position is under the supervision of the Chair of the Department of Primary Care.  The position is directly responsible for teaching, osteopathic clinical research, and service in the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) Department of Primary Care. Approximately 550 medical students, 30 full-time faculty, and a variety of clinical partners are part of the KYCOM team.

The Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) is ranked second among all D.O. and M.D. granting medical schools in the U.S. for graduates practicing in primary care and second for those practicing in rural areas. Since 1997, KYCOM’s guiding principle has been to educate physicians to serve underserved and rural areas, with an emphasis on primary care. Nestled in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains near a growing regional hospital, KYCOM’s graduates are well prepared to enter high-quality and rigorous graduate medical education residencies.

 Responsibilities:  

1. Responsible for teaching in those courses and associated labs within the KYCOM Department of Primary Care.
2. Participates in and recommends curriculum development and evaluation.
3. Assists in preparing course syllabi, objectives, lecture schedules, and testing procedures.
4. Assists in preparing materials and documentation required for continued school accreditation by the American Osteopathic Association - COCA and other accrediting agencies.
5. Actively serves on appointed KYCOM Faculty and UPIKE Committees.
6. Provides clinical services as directed by the Department Chair and KYCOM Dean, which would be associated with primary care.
7. Provides counseling, advising, and guidance to students.
8. Attends Commencement, White Coat Ceremony, new student orientation, and University of Pikeville Opening Convocation.
9. Participates in Faculty Development.
10. Assists in the selection of students to attend KYCOM.
11. Responsible for other duties as directed by the Chair or KYCOM Dean.

Education/Credentials:  

• Must have earned a D.O. degree from a COCA-accredited college/school of osteopathic medicine.
• Must be board-certified by the American Osteopathic Association or American Board of Medical Specialties in a primary care specialty (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics). 
• Current and unrestricted medical license issued by the Kentucky Board of Medical License (KBML).
• Current and unrestricted DEA certificate.

Experience: 

• Teaching in an academic setting is preferred. 
• Clinical experience within a primary care setting is required.

• Must have current knowledge and skills in utilizing Microsoft Office Applications, including but not limited to Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
• Must be able to learn and utilize Learning Management Systems such as Canvas and the University's online platform and systems.
• Must demonstrate cooperation, courtesy, and consideration when working with the professional community, KYCOM, KYCO, and UPIKE communities, faculty, students, and the public.
• Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
