Adjunct Instructor - Elizabeth Akers Elliott School of Nursing

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia, is currently seeking adjunct instructors who are passionate about teaching and student learning for the Elizabeth Akers Elliott School of Nursing.

Each semester, we may need part-time instructors in the clinical or skills lab for:

  • Fundamentals of Nursing
  • Medical-Surgical Nursing
  • Maternity Nursing
  • Mental Health Nursing
  • Agency Preceptor Coordination
  • Remedial assistance such as tutoring of nursing students

The adjunct instructor will serve under the supervision of specific full-time nursing faculty and the Dean of the Elizabeth Akers Elliott School of Nursing while accepting the following responsibilities:   

  1. Provide instruction for the assigned course, including clinical supervision, patient assignments, clinical paperwork, pre-post conference, assisting with return skill demonstration, and fostering clinical decision-making.
  2. Provide clinical evaluation as required and meet one-on-one with students to strengthen clinical decision-making.
  3. Maintain close communication with the course leader or supervising faculty.
  4. Maintain health records, an unencumbered KY RN license, and other documentation as required by the Elliott School of Nursing or health agencies.
  5. Responsibilities for all other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Requirements:

  1. Must have a minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and two years of clinical experience.
  2. Must have excellent organizational, communication, teaching and clinical decision-making skills.
  3. Prior clinical instruction or teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  4. Prior experience with electronic health documentation and simulation is strongly preferred.

Courses are offered during the day. Clinical instruction is offered during the day and occasionally in the evening. Travel is required and is the responsibility of the instructor. Positions are available in the Fall and Spring semesters on an as-needed basis. Review of applications will begin immediately.
