Assistant or Associate Professor of Art and Digital Media

The Humanities Division at the University of Pikeville seeks an Assistant or Associate professor of art with a specialization in one or more of the following: digital art, art and art history, visual art, digital media and imaging, and/or web design. This successful candidate will join an innovative team that recently restructured the division to strengthen interdisciplinary approaches and digital Humanities courses. 

Possible courses could include:

● Introduction to Digital Art and Design
● Introduction to Web Design
● Integrated Media
● Digital Humanities
● Art and Art History
● Cultural Theory

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Film and Media Arts and Art programs, helping an already growing team develop courses in photography, video, and digital art, and collaborating with the new Information Technology Management Program. They will also contribute to the growth and development of interdisciplinary curriculum in Humanities and across the campus, including in the medical sciences and entrepreneurship.

Responsibilities:

  1. Create and maintain an environment that is conducive to innovative teaching and active learning.
  2. Emphasize broadly trained skills and a strong passion for excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship.
  3. Develop, communicate, and fulfill effective course learning outcomes.
  4. Teach courses utilizing no-cost course materials and Open Educational Resources (OERs).
  5. Compose and publish syllabi containing the items listed in the approved syllabus rubric.
  6. Teaching courses for both majors and non-majors.
  7. As assigned and in consultation with the area chair, advise students, provide service to the University community, assisting with divisional activities, and continuing scholarly growth and development.
  8. Ability to instruct classes using face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online modalities.
  9. Establish mutual respect with students through effective and timely communication including expectations, deadlines, and feedback on work completed.
  10. Maintain good working relationships with faculty and administration in all academic and non-academic sectors.
  11. Communicate effectively with constituents within the University, surrounding community, and State regarding the University.
  12. Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) to support classroom instruction.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, students, faculty, and staff in order to disseminate necessary information and coordinate for daily operations. These relationships are maintained through person-to-person contact, phone, e-mail, and fax.

Education/Sill Requirements:

  • Applicants must either hold a PhD or MFA in Digital/Media Arts, Design, or other closely related field.
  • ABD candidates may be considered. 
  • Candidates whose scholarship bridge artistic forms and enhance the University's commitment to diversity are particularly welcome.
