Assistant or Associate Professor of Pharmacology

The University of Pikeville and Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor within the Department of Biomedical Sciences. KYCOM is ranked #2 by US News and World Report in medical schools with the most graduates practicing in rural areas and #2 in medical schools with the most graduates in practicing primary care. This full-time position is under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences, with direct responsibility for teaching, scholarly activity/research and service in the discipline of Pharmacology. 

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the coordination of and teaching in the biomedical sciences, including but not limited to:

  1. Teaching Pharmacology, including preparation of lectures, lecture notes, learning objectives, PowerPoint slides, exam questions, and syllabi.
  2. Participates in and recommends curriculum development and evaluation.
  3. Research and other scholarly activities.
  4. Provide counseling and guidance for the students.
  5. Serves on assigned Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM), Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO), and the University of Pikeville committees.
  6. Attends university events such as Commencement, White Coat Ceremony, new student orientation, and University of Pikeville Opening Convocation.
  7. Participates in Faculty Development.
  8. Assists in the selection of students to attend KYCOM.
  9. Establishes mutual respect with students through effective and timely communication including expectations, deadlines, and feedback on work completed.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the KYCOM Dean.

Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:

  • PhD in Pharmacology or closely related field.
  • Previous academic experience, preferably at an osteopathic or allopathic medical education program.
  • Experience teaching face-to-face and/or online within a higher education environment. 

Relationships:

Position requires daily professional contact with faculty, staff, supervisor, campus departments, and students. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.
