Assistant or Associate Professor of Information Technology Management

The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky seeks a dynamic and creative faculty leading and teaching in a newly developed Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management. The successful candidate will have strong systems administration skills and a background in network security, databases, and python programming. The finalist should also possess skills in building a curriculum responsive to industry trends and focused on student learning and career success. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching in a university setting and the ability to work effectively with others in a collegial environment dedicated to student learning.

Responsibilities:

  1. Teach and prepare materials for assigned undergraduate courses, including but not limited to Systems Administration, Database Management, IT Project Management, Python Programming, and Network Security.
  2. Serve as an academic adviser for students and evaluate student coursework.
  3. Serve on the college or university committees and participate in curriculum development activities.
  4. Render service to the professional community, which is relevant to the individual's academic specialty, such as serving on committees for professional meetings.
  5. Faculty within the ITM program consistently seek to integrate innovative teaching and real-world problems to engage students in real-world classroom experiences.
  6. The successful candidate must have demonstrated the ability to work as part of a team and develop productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders, a commitment to high standards, and professional integrity.
  7. Create and maintain an environment conducive to innovative teaching and active learning.
  8. Emphasize broadly trained skills and a strong passion for excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship.
  9. Develop new courses utilizing no-cost course materials and Open Educational Resources (OERs).
  10. Ability to instruct classes using face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online modalities.
  11. Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) to support classroom instruction.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Information Technology, Information Systems, or related disciplines from a recognized university and significant work experience in the Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A PhD and undergraduate teaching experience is desired. Applicants with ABD status within one year of completion will also be considered.
  • Two or more years of successful experience teaching in the IT/IS-related field. 
  • Applicant should possess knowledge of various instructional technology applications, such as the Canvas learning management system.
  • Industry certifications related to subject areas, i.e., CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker and Certified Cisco Network Administrator.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, students, faculty, and staff to disseminate necessary information and coordinate operations daily. These relationships are maintained through person-to-person contact, phone, e-mail, and fax.
