Human Resources Coordinator

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), is actively seeking candidates for a Human Resources Coordinator who is responsible for general administrative support of day-to-day HR operations.


  1. Serve as primary back-up for benefit administration.
  2. Assists with employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, dental, vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 403(b) retirement, and employee leave of absences (FMLA).
  3. Assists with employee benefits filing systems, reporting requirements, and ensuring changes are entered appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction.
  4. Conducts benefits orientations and explains benefits self-enrollment system.
  5. Coordinates HR events (i.e., Employee Recognition events) and assists with other HR projects.
  6. Assists with recruitment, new employee orientation, and background checks as needed.
  7. Completes monthly reconciliation of department credit cards.
  8. Performs HRIS data entry and personnel file maintenance.
  9. Assists employees and supervisors with basic interpretation of HR policies and procedures.
  10. Maintains confidential personnel files and personnel actions.
  11. Conducts/responds to reference checks and verifications of employment.
  12. Completes new hire forms, including I-9, verifies I-9 documentation, and maintains I-9 files.
  13. Conducts driver’s license checks and manages the Driver Training program.
  14. Other duties as assigned.


Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, employees of the institution, as well as vendors in order to answer questions, obtain quotes, and ensure paperwork is completed. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, fax, telephone, and person-to-person contact. 

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree is required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience may be substituted for the education.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), is preferred.
  • Previous experience in HR is preferred. 
  • Excellent judgement and discretion with regard to sensitive and/or confidential information.
