Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

The University of Pikeville and Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) is seeking an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. KYCOM is ranked #2 by US News and World Report in medical schools with the most graduates practicing in rural areas and #2 in medical schools with the most graduates in practicing primary care. With nearly 550 students, faculty and staff are committed to teaching and learning, innovation, and the success of medical education. 

Under the supervision of the Dean of KYCOM, this person is directly responsible for the administration of all aspects of the KYCOM academic programs as assigned by the Dean.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and evaluate the Academic Affairs staff.
  2. Prepare and recommend a departmental budget.
  3. Serve as Chair or Co-chair of the KYCOM Curriculum Committee.
  4. Oversee the creation and management of daily class schedules for first and second year KYCOM classes.
  5. Oversee the block exam testing process for first and second year classes.
  6. Oversee the composition of Medical Student Performance Evaluations (MSPE) for KYCOM students.
  7. Assist KYCOM students in preparation for COMLEX Level 1 and 2CE and advise the Dean on the purchase of board preparation materials for KYCOM students.
  8. Assist in the preparation of materials and documentation required for COCA and SACS accreditation.
  9. Work closely with other assistant and associate deans to ensure coordination and continuity in the daily operations of KYCOM.
  10. Provide counseling and guidance to students.
  11. Serve on assigned KYCOM and UPIKE committees.
  12. Attend Commencement, White Coat Ceremony, new student orientation, and University of Pikeville Opening Convocation.
  13. Assist in the selection of students to attend KYCOM.
  14. Other duties as assigned by the KYCOM Dean.

Qualifications:

Education/Credentials:

  • Earned Doctorate degree is required.

Experience:

  • Previous academic and administrative experience preferably with a college of osteopathic medicine.

  • Must have current knowledge and skills in utilizing Microsoft Office Applications, including but not limited to Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Must be able to learn and utilize Learning Management Systems such as Canvas; and the University online platform and systems.
  • Must demonstrate cooperation, courtesy, and consideration when working with professional community, KYCOM, KYCO and UPIKE communities, faculty, students, and the public.
  • Must be able to work independently and also as a member of a team.
  • Alignment with the University of Pikeville and KYCOM missions.
