Assessment Coordinator - Kentucky College of Optometry

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) in Pikeville, Kentucky seeks a dynamic and creative professional interested in leading and directing the Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO) testing and assessment initiatives. This position is responsible for wide-ranging responsibilities that oversee the composition and coordination of assessment of student learning outcomes and assists in the evaluation of academic and clinical programs, integrates assessment activities and results with accreditation processes, disseminates obtained information among University constituents and stakeholders, and sponsors instructional support activities. The position requires extensive interaction with the KYCO Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, faculty, and staff across campus.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supports systematic planning by administering a comprehensive, continual, and multi-dimensional assessment program.
  2. Administers student learning outcomes and evaluation of academic assessment.
  3. Administers student learning outcomes and evaluation of clinical programs.
  4. Administrator and point of contact for ExamSoft regarding all matters, including but not limited to contracts, software and IOS updates and compatibility.
  5. Collaborates with university/college units as necessary to integrate assessment and evaluation efforts and maintain accurate student records.
  6. Integrates assessment activities and results with accreditation processes.
  7. Demonstrate expertise in ExamSoft, Examplify, ExamID, ExamMonitor, eMedley, Canvas and Colleague, and other education and testing software.
  8. Maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, and students.
  9. Maintain confidential records regarding interactions with students in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA Regulations.
  10. Supports the College’s mission by collecting, organizing, and analyzing multiple internal and external assessment resources and protocols disseminating the information among faculty, students and staff.
  11. Provides leadership/guidance of the assessment process by communicating the purposes of student outcomes assessment, assisting in the development and delineation of assessment plans, assisting in the selection of appropriate measures and methods for assessing student learning outcomes, and analyzing and communicating the results of assessments conducted.
  12. Assists with, supports, and coordinates the reporting of assessment activities, supporting planning and budgeting decisions, and represents assessment and evaluation processes to external agencies.
  13. In coordination with faculty and administration, develops and supports the assessment plan.
  14. Communicates with all students regarding examination schedules, examination technology and outcomes.
  15. Conducts challenge sessions, review sessions and answers all student concerns.
  16. Ensures that accreditation requirements, including compliance with accrediting standards, are incorporated, among other institutional goals and objectives, into the planning and evaluation process.
  17. Provide continued Examplify support and support for all students.
  18. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as recommended by the Associate Dean.
  19. Contributes to the overall success of Student Development and the College by performing all other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean.
  20. Serve on assigned KYCO Academic Committees.

Relationships: 

This position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisors, students, faculty, and staff in order to advise and promote KYCO assessment. These relationships are maintained through email, fax, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Prior experience in higher education setting, preferably with experience in assessing student learning outcomes in an academic program.

Skill Requirements: 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, Word and other computer applications.
  • Relate to and empathize with the needs of students.
  • Ability to exercise group leadership skills, which emphasize collaboration, consensus building, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
