Instructional Technology Specialist

The University of Pikeville is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Instructional Technology Specialist to support and enhance the integration of technology in teaching and learning. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in promoting digital literacy and providing technical expertise to faculty and students, ensuring the effective use of technology in educational settings.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts workshops, seminars, and training sessions in partnership with faculty and/or staff to increase knowledge of technology and application within an academic setting.
  2. Engage in collaborative efforts with Professional Development initiatives to enhance and advance professional skills and career growth.
  3. Assists faculty in developing curriculum materials that facilitate the implementation of technology use within a discipline.
  4. Provide training and support to faculty in the use of instructional technology tools and software, such as learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing platforms, and educational apps.
  5. Responsible for overseeing the administration and optimization of ImageNow Cloud services, ensuring seamless document management and efficient workflow processes.
  6. Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of online courses, ensuring that they are engaging, accessible, and meet quality standards.
  7. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to instructional technology, both in the classroom and online environments.
  8. Collaborate with the university's ITS/AV department to ensure the integration and compatibility of hardware and software for educational purposes.
  9. Assist with the development and implementation of technology-based assessments, analytics, and data analysis to support student learning outcomes.
  10. Support the development of multimedia content, including video lectures, simulations, and interactive learning materials.
  11. Create and maintain documentation, tutorials, and resources for faculty, staff, and students to facilitate self-help and knowledge sharing.
  12. Conduct workshops, seminars, and training sessions on instructional technology topics for faculty and staff.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, faculty, staff, and students in order to plan, organize, and implement daily workflow and projects, as well as to train, inform, and assist with any inquiries. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional technology, education, or a related field. Work experience may be substituted for the education.
  • Proven experience in instructional design, education technology, or a related role in higher education.
  • Strong knowledge of learning management systems, multimedia production tools, and educational software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse faculty and staff.
  • Problem-solving skills with a proactive and customer-oriented approach to technical support.
  • Proficiency in multimedia production software and hardware (e.g., video editing, audio recording, graphic editing).
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to staying current with emerging technologies and trends in higher education.
