Academic Coordinator - Center for Academic Excellence

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), is actively seeking candidates for an Academic Coordinator with the Center for Academic Excellence. The primary function for this position is to assist the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) and Division of Student Success in managing the academic support operations at the University of Pikeville (UPIKE). This position utilizes appropriate learning strategies and academic coaching to develop tutoring programming, identify resources for learning support, provide outreach to the university community, and provide supervision to assigned student employees. The Coordinator will work with assigned students on an individual and/or small group basis to develop learning strategies, study skills, and time management skill, as well as to monitor progress toward completion of academic coursework and promote equitable student success.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Monitor progress and provide academic support to students in completing academic coursework throughout the semester. The Coordinator will document progress and submit weekly reports to the Director of the Center for Academic Excellence.
  2. Assist with the coordination of recruiting, hiring, evaluating, and daily supervision of 20+ academic leaders.
  3. Coordinate face-to-face academic support modalities and workshops.
  4. Assist the Director and Assistant Dean of Student Success with assessments involving academic support services provided to students at UPIKE.
  5. Focus on implementing specific strategies to assist students with academic deficiencies and those with personal and/or family issues that affect their ability to persist.
  6. Evaluate and adjust the student support process in the CAE annually to better promote equity and access.
  7. Under the supervision of the Director, maintain a positive working relationship with staff and faculty.
  8. Monitor student attendance and academic progress through the university’s early alert system and referral for assigned students.
  9. Make referrals to appropriate departments including Student Success, Student Affairs, Registrar, Business Office, Financial Aid, ACE, Disability Resource Center, etc. and monitor progress and resolutions when appropriate.
  10. Maintain Canvas resource page for undergraduate students, including the creation of content and resources and an annual evaluation of usage and accessibility.
  11. Assist with outreach, GROWL, social media, summer orientation, potential student events, and marketing materials to promote academic support programs.
  12. Maintain confidential records regarding interactions with students in accordance with FERPA Regulations.
  13. Engage in professional development opportunities as provided, specifically involving academic coaching and academic support services.
  14. Represent the Center for Academic Excellence and Division of Student Success on committees and taskforces as needed.
  15. Assist with any new Center for Academic Excellence initiatives and collaborations as determined by the Director of the Center for Academic Excellence.
  16. Other duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Dean of Student Success.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, students, faculty, and staff in order to effectively coordinate the tutoring program. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, fax, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required and 1-3 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends as needed.
  • Must be student oriented and have a compassionate nature with the ability to be empathetic to student needs.
  • Experience with helping at-risk students in a university environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with student success factors in higher education is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to creatively problem-solve student issues in a timely manner.
  • Ability to utilize organizational skills and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Strong computer literacy skills and experience with word processing systems and the ability to navigate student records systems.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record with the ability to drive a 12- passenger van as needed by the university.
