FWS - Center for Academic Excellence - Welcome Desk Specialist - Fall/Spring 24/25

Attend the Welcome Desk and act as a first point of contact for students and perspective students; verify hours of attendance for student-athletes; share tutors’ schedules with students, staff, and faculty; send emails as needed

Training:

CAE Tutor training will be provided and is required. Details will be discussed during the interview.

 

  1. Maintain a positive and effective environment during shifts (P, L, EI)
  2. Work independently and effectively; use resources to direct guests (P, CT, T)
  3. Maintain confidentiality, be punctual, communicate changes in work schedule in advance, dress appropriately for the work environment (P, CT, C, TW, T)
  4. Serve as a receptionist; greet and direct visitors; superior verbal and written communication skills (P, CT, EI, T, C)
  5. Effectively communicate your skills and availability to perform this job in your letter of application (CT, C, CSD)
  6. Assist student-athletes with time keeping requirements (C, CT, L, P)
  7. Execute specific plans for each student-athlete created by the Athletic Coordinator (TW, C, P)
  8. Follow appropriate procedures to document and submit students’ progress to CAE staff (T, C, CT, P)
  9. Maintain accurate records and data of each student (P, L, C, CSD, T)
  10. Assist with developing marketing and learning materials (CSD, C, CT, EI, L, P, T)
  11. Create and submit videos, print materials, and online content (CSD, C, CT, EI, L, P, T)
  12. Professionally represent the CAE (CSD, C, CT, EI, L, P, T)
  13. Interact with faculty, staff, and other campus constituents (CSD, C, EI, L, P, T)
  14. Represent the CAE at various events (CSD, C, CT, EI, L, P, T)
  15. Maintain a positive mindset and respect students’ needs, abilities, and confidentialities (CSD, C, CT, L, P, T)
  16. Remain open to the evolving needs of the CAE (CSD, CT, EI, L, P, T)

 

 

 

Relationships:

This position requires daily communication with co-workers, supervisors, students, faculty, and staff to coordinate the tutoring program effectively. These relationships are maintained via in-person communication, email, and Connecteam.

Director of the Center for Academic Excellence

Education/Skill Requirements:

  1. Must maintain an overall 3.0 GPA
  2. Computer knowledge and online software: Canvas, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Connecteam, social media, etc.
  3. Proven outstanding written and verbal communication
  4. Work performed under set deadlines and occasional other CAE duties

Work Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job

  1. Work is performed inside under normal office conditions. Computer time is included in daily working hours.
  2. Some evening shifts are required.
  3. Welcome Desk Specialist will be scheduled an average of 10 hours per week. Additional hours must be approved.

Physical demands included are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of the job successfully:

  1. Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.
  2. Keyboarding
  3. Reaching/Handling

Work Schedule: Varies depending on need and availability
