FWS - Family Connections - First Year Success Leader FWSFRSTYRSCLDR - Fall/Spring 24/25

The First Year Success Leader position exists within First Year Experience (UPIKE FIRST).  Through a variety of experiences and opportunities, First Year Success Leaders have the power to make a positive and lasting difference in the UPIKE community and develop great leadership and résumé-building skills in the process.

First Year Success Leader - 

  • Attend assigned section(s) of FS 102 and participate in class discussions. (C, TW, P, CSD, CT, EI, L)
  • Serve as a peer mentor for students in assigned section(s) of FS 102. (C, P, CSD, CT, EI, L)
  • Offer support to first-year students and refer them to campus resources as needed. (C, P, CSD, EI, L, T)
  • Host individual and small group meetings with students in assigned section(s) of FS 102. Meetings will take place at least once with each student during the fall semester and can be hosted in-person (preferred) or FaceTime. (C, P, CSD, EI, L, T)
  • Perform bi-weekly check-ins with first-year students via text and email. (C, P, EI, L, T)
  • Help maintain UPIKE FIRST page on CampusGroups. (TW, T)
  • Maintain communication log of contacts with students in assigned section(s) of FS 102. (C, CSD, EI, L, T)
  • Participate in meetings with coordinator and director. (C, TW, P, CSD, EI, L, T)
  • Uphold and enforce all aspects of the university code of conduct and address inappropriate behavior among students. (P, CSD, L)

Qualifications

  • Be a positive, enthusiastic, school spirited and motivated student
  • Earn a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Have completed FS 102
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 terms
  • Behavior/Conduct records in UPIKE Housing and the Student Conduct Office will be checked when making hiring decisions. These records may or may not affect the final hiring decision.
  • Campus knowledge and connections with staff and faculty
  • Teamwork and interpersonal communication
  • Effective communication and positive customer service
