IWS - Biology - Biotechnologies Research Asst* - Summer 24

Summer Research Assistant with Biotechnology, working with Dr. Kevin Wang.

Responsibilities

 

    • Assist with laboratory research, experiments, and data collection under the guidance of a mentor. Understand and apply scientific methods and analytical techniques. (CT, C, P, T)
    • Learn and effectively apply techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, cell culture, etc., following specific protocols and procedures. (T, AD)
    • Participate in research meetings and present findings to the team. Communicate complex information clearly and concisely. (C, CT, PS)
    • Collaborate with other interns and research staff on interdisciplinary projects. Share knowledge and work towards common goals. (TW, C, L)
    • Conduct literature reviews to support research findings and hypotheses. Analyze and synthesize information from various sources. (CT, IL)
    • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks and records. Ensure reliability and reproducibility of data. (AD, OS, I)
    • Follow all safety guidelines and laboratory protocols to ensure a safe working environment. (SA, Comp, R)
    • Utilize data analysis software and tools to interpret experimental results and contribute to the development of research hypotheses. (T, AS, CL)
    • Engage in self-directed learning to improve knowledge and skills relevant to the field. Seek feedback and apply constructive criticism. (SDL, A, CSD)
    • Network with professionals and peers to build connections and gain insights into career paths in biotechnology. (N, P, EI)

 

Computer skills:  Word, Excel, Power Point

Other skills:  Attention to detail, strong active listening abilities, written and verbal communication, willingness to learn new things

Employee will interact with Faculty, Staff, Parents, students. 

Preferred Availability:  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Number of Positions:  2  Approximately 20 hours a week

Pay Rate:  $10.50/hr
