Job Title: UPIKE FIRST Week Leader 

Overview:Join us in welcoming new students to UPIKE and making a positive impact on their college experienceAs a UPIKE FIRST Week Leader, you will play a crucial role in welcoming new students to the campus community and helping them navigate their transition to college life. You will work closely with the UPIKE FIRST team and campus staff to facilitate activities, provide information, and create a welcoming environment that fosters inclusivity and engagement. 

Responsibilities: 

  1. Orientation Activities Coordination: 

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate orientation activities and events designed to introduce new students to campus life, academic expectations, and available resources.(C, P, CSD, EI, L) 

  • Collaborate with other orientation leaders and staff to ensure a smooth and well-coordinated program.(C, TW) 

  • Host at least one breakout session.(CSD) 

  1. Student Guidance and Support: 

  • Serve as a resource and point of contact for new students, offering guidance on campus facilities, academic services, and extracurricular opportunities.(C, EI) 

  • Address questions and concerns from new students, providing accurate information and referrals when necessary.(C, P) 

  1. Leadership and Role Modeling: 

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for campus life and a commitment to fostering a positive student experience.(P, EI, L) 

  • Act as a role model for new students by upholding university policies and promoting respect for diversity and inclusion.(P, EI, L). 

  1. Team Collaboration: 

  • Work collaboratively with fellow orientation leaders and staff to enhance the overall orientation experience.(C, TW, P) 

  • Participate in training sessions and meetings to stay informed about campus policies, procedures, and resources.(CSD, CT, T) 

  1. Event Evaluation and Feedback: 

  • Collect feedback from new students and staff to assess the effectiveness of orientation activities.(C, CSD, CT, T) 

  • Provide constructive input for improving future UPIKE FIRST Week programs based on participant experiences and observations.(P, CSD, CT, L, T) 

Qualifications: 

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at UPIKE.  

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups of students and families. 

  • Leadership experience in campus organizations, orientation programs, or related activities preferred. 

  • Knowledge of campus resources, academic programs, and student services is beneficial. 

  • Dependable, responsible, and enthusiastic about welcoming new students to the university community. 

Time Commitment: 

  • Availability for training sessions prior to UPIKE FIRST Week. 

  • Prep days: Monday, August 12 – Friday, August 16 & Monday, August 19-Tuesday, August 20 

  • UPIKE FIRST Week: Tuesday, August 20 – Sunday, August 25 

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during orientation week and related events. 

Benefits: 

  • Residential students have the opportunity to move in on Friday, August 2 and participate in Student Leadership Academy.Schedule TBD.

Work Schedule: Varies according to First Week schedule

Number of Positions: 5

Work hours a week:  up to 40 before school starts

Pay Rate:  8.75

Loculation:  UPIKE Campus, various locations
