FWS - Chemistry - Chemistry Teaching Asst KJ FWSCHEMISTRYTA - Fall/Spring 24/25
Serve as the Teaching Assistant for General Chemistry labs and Quantitative Analysis labs.
Responsibilities and Career Competencies
- Maintain confidentiality, be punctual, communicate changes in work schedule in advance. Wear appropriate attire as discussed for work environment. (P)
- Assist with set-up of laboratories. This will include making standard solutions and unknowns. This will require independent lab work and includes knowing how to use any instrumentation that is required for the lab. (TW, CT, T)
- Arrive at the lab 15 minutes before class is scheduled to ensure that everything is ready for the students when students arrive. (P)
- Assist with answering student questions during lab. Must have the ability to work inclusively in a diverse setting. (C, CT, L, EI)
- Follow all safety regulations and make sure students do so as well. (P, L, CT)
- At the end of each lab session, make sure that students leave the lab clean and orderly with common equipment returned to where it belongs, and instrumentation turned off. (C, TW, L)
- Provide clerical support, proofreading, photocopying, and filing. Work on additional projects as assigned. (TW)
- Assist with grading lab reports – in doing so, maintain confidentiality. (C, P, CT)
- Prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines with successful completion of work. (P, L)

Preferred Qualifications: Completion of CHE-115 General Chemistry I Lab, CHE-116 General Chemistry II Lab, and CHE-321 Quantitative Analysis with a grade of “A” or better.
Computer Skill: Word, Excel, Power Point
Other Skills: Attention to detail, Strong active listening abilities, Public speaking, Written & Verbal communication, Willingness to learn new things
Work Schedule: 10 hours a week
